Our Mk2 Golf Van project is in need of some protection from the elements, and Dinitrol have very kindly sent us some to try out.

Eek noooo. Dinitrol 491 (rubbery) or 445 is for the arches. 4941 is a more of a top coat that is semi permanent. It doesn't dry out and definitely not for engine bay. Yours hands will be a mess every time you work on it. I'd have wired wheeled the surface rust, used a converter for missed bits, epoxy or zinc primed, rubber coating and left it there. Engine you'd want paint. 4941 comes off easy enough with their remover product

Engine bay is bone dry now, so not sure what you’re talking about there. They told us themselves it’d be fine and so far, it seems to be?

@427Motorsports 4941 is a wax like/based product. It will never dry out and by design and is self healing. You will get sticky black stuff on hands whenever you work on your engine. I've used the products on my cars, 2 had 4941 under the floors and 3 years later are still tacky to the touch and require top up on impact areas such as jacking points. Dinitrol 582 cleaner will wipe 4941 straight off (but not 491 as that is a permanent product).

@mattsgaragex really don’t know what to tell you buddy, but we’ve literally just went out to it and pressed hands firmly against it. Bone dry and no marks on our hands.

What colour does the dinitrol dry

Dries black if you get the black one, the clear one we assume is clear but will likely have a slight tinge to it
