In this pro wrestling documentary, we will discover the key components in the success of ECW in the early 1990s. From the early days of Tri-State Wrestling and the National Wrestling Alliance under Joel Goodhart and Todd Gordon, through the early success under the booking of Hot Stuff Eddie Gilbert. We will see how a young Paul Heyman would rise through the ranks in WCW before taking over Eastern Championship Wrestling and turning it extreme. We will discover the key components in the failure of ECW in the late 1990s and early 2000s. From the final ECW ppvs with Barely Legal, Heatwave and Guilty As Charged, through the success of WWE ECW One Night Stand. We will see how a veteran Paul Heyman would rise through the ranks in WWE before taking over WWF Raw in 2001 as part of the WCW and ECW invasion. We will discover the key components of ECW that inspired so many other wrestling companies in the late 1990s and early 2000s up until the modern day. From the hardcore matches of Combat Zone Wrestling, GCW at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, through the success of the WWE Hardcore championship. We will see how a veteran Paul Heyman would change his persona once again to allign himself with the Big Show, Cesaro, Brock Lesnar, CM Punk, Curtis Axel and Roman Reigns.
With appearances from Tommy Dreamer, Sandman, Rob Van Dam, Sabu, Terry Funk and Jimmy Snuka, Edge and Lita, Dawn Marie, Taz, Vince McMahon, Tommy Dreamer, Sandman, Rob Van Dam, Sabu, Terry Funk, Mick Foley, Joey Styles, Raven and John Cena. Nick Gage, Test, 2 Cold Scorpio and The Undertaker, as well as a host of other hardcore pro wrestlers who took ECW from the ECW Arena in Philadelphia all the way to WWE Wrestlemania.

ECW is like Sex Pistols. ECW wasn't around long but they changed the industry and were very influential. You still hear ECW chants today. Sex Pistols put out one album and they were gone but were very influential.

Vince bought ECW just like he bought out the wrestling territories because they were a (although small compared to WCW and the WWF(E)) popular alternative promotion that was big enough to hold a sizeable population size of fans while also being another promotion that wrestlers could go to work for instead of the WWF(E) aside from WCW. Which Vince just has to own his bigger competition that has any library he can make a penny on from nostalgic fans. Also ECW (and Paul Heyman) being friendly enough with the WWF(E) to make a deal to filter in wrestlers who already made a small name for themselves with fans while having wrestlers who needed a start over to go over and remake themselves into a new character that had a chance to be utilized by the WWF(E) later if the makeover panned out. It was also noticeable that (most but not all) wrestlers going from ECW to the WWF(E) were treated a bit better (by other wrestlers and by the company) than those who came straight from WCW.

YES !!!! Thank you for this in advance . If not for ECW I would have gave up on what was my passion in life since 85 . I bought every mag studied every book on wrestling out there as a kid ! I was a 10 year old inspiring wrestling historian lol . Then wrestling turned to shit . But thank God when i was 15 or 16 I saw stuff in a mag on ECW . So I bought two 6 hour tapes and was hooked ! 94 -95ish stuff like Sandman being blinded and Sabu (blew my mind) vs Cactus Jack , Public Enemy and the whole cast I was introduced to made me a fan for life buying everything I could find on them !!!!

It does dip a bit in the middle where the subject of ECW going out of business is brushed over in 10 minutes . Paul Heyman basically abandoned the ECW guys when he appeared on Raw , when the ECW talent though he was still running the company . ECW is great to watch but as Bischoff says it was watched by minimal numbers late night on stations nobody could get , ECW could never be mainstream as sponsors would not back it , I wish it was still around to allow other talents time to shine but it was always going to be a temporary thing

Man , I really wish I still had all those 94-96 hardcore TV shows on tape . But unfortunately the dumbass in the apartment below me had rigged up lights himself for his snakes and caught our building on fire ! So I lost tons of wrestling tapes , autographs by SAbu , Sandman , Rey , Konnan , Psychosis , Spike , Crowbar etc etc.....But those ECW tapes you cant find anymore unless the music is changed up and even then its not the same as seeing all the packages and clips of other shows . Hell , even the commercials I would sit through again to have those tapes back !
