Important lessons from Seneca to remember whether you're voting in an American election or somewhere else. Not just in the US, but in other places unfortunately, there is ego and incompetence on all sides of politics, not just one. I have learned that Stoicism has helped in avoiding getting too polarised on one side whilst demonising the other.

Exactly, it is rather arrogant of the maker to portray president 45 in this light while forgetting what 44 and 46 have delivered. The way 44 speaks to voters is a fine example of his ego and living close to the sea in a multi million dollar property, which according his own speeches would disappear within 10 years, is proof of how 44 believes the plebus is ignoranus

People search for lessons in history, but it’s just the same cycle, over and over. Rome, like every empire before and after had fallen, and it’s just another cycle of ego and power fading into nothing, and in the end, none of it mattered.

When someone does you wrong, you should consider immediately what judgment of good or evil led him to wrong you. When you see this you will pity him, and not feel surprise or anger. You yourself either still share his views of good, or something like it, in which case you should understand and forgive: if, on the other hand, you no longer judge such things as eitehr good or evil, it will be easier for you to be patient with the unsighted....Meditations 7.11

@@wirikidor My opinion does not matter, I am just another idiot. I do find it interesting that Ryan Holiday who has made a living off of being a Stoic constantly slams one political candidate and his party. I respect other folks and who they vote for, but there have been a few videos that for me are very opposite of stoicism. I come to the Daily stoic to better myself, however lately I feel like I am watching onion pieces. We have politics everywhere here in the states, I thought this was a safe space from all of that nonsense. I guess it's not. I see people from different political parties getting into arguments on the Daily Stoic videos', its just sad.

I think it's very stoic indeed to speak up for what you know is right in the face of criticism. To denounce the political aspirations of a would-be dictator, fascist, no-good bastard. To use the influence you have to promote good. Despite knowing that many of your fans unfortunately have bought into the propaganda and have become (clearly) emotionally attached to this deranged hateful politician. Thank you Ryan. Your videos gave me tools to fight my way out from a very dark place 2-years ago. Now you continue to inspire me to embody the stoic values as best as I know how. Whatever happens in the next few days, let's not allow the emotions and irrational hatred/passion of our countrymen to distract us. We will get through these times with a level-head, calmness, and compassion.

People…all he is doing is making a point - look what other failed leaders who share similar traits and qualities have done throughout history. If you’re getting angry, if you’re reacting to this in a negative way, acting like this somehow doesn’t apply to our current situation, or think this is divisive…then it’s time to do some self reflection and assessment. it’s time to put your focus on something more important/productive in your life. don’t let this stuff steal your life, ruin relationships, ruin your outlook on the world. I tuned out of politics a few years ago because I found myself being very reactive and angry like some of you in the comments…and am so grateful for ridding myself of it and wish the same for you all.

Ego sure, but also hedonism. I think thats where we are heading now too tbh. People are less and less inclined to build families or have kids, me included. Add in the fact that in a few decades careers will basically go obsolete when ai and automation will have taken most of the jobs. Even home chores will be done by robots. I see hedonism really getting out of control at that point. Partying, drugs, drinking, gambling, sex etc. Now wheter thats a good or a bad thing remains to be seen. Its interesting times for sure.

Focus on doing everything you can is within your control in any situation and don't be bothered by that which is outside of your control. Applying that to an election, if one candidate displays all of the worst character traits the stoics tell us not to indulge in and tried to overturn democracy, you are well within your means to try to influence people not to vote for that candidate. Your sense of wisdom and justice will tell you that candidate is bad for the country, and courage will help you to speak out. You do realize that the Abrams Accord was cited by a Fatah Central Committee member as being one of the reasons for the October 7th attack on Israel? You do realize that a nomination for a Nobel prize is not the same thing as winning a Nobel prize? Furthermore, there are historical precedents of Nobel prizes being inappropriately given to people, such as former President Barack Obama. You are aware that The U.S. government does not publish data on the net number of migrants who enter illegally and remain in the country, but only the of encounters with illegal immigrants at the border? Or, that the illegal immigrants are the result of issues with visas rather than border crossing? And are you aware that Donald Trump, literally told his party to vote against illegal immigration reform as a strategic move to assure a win? You are aware that although Trump did keep GM and Trane in the US, there was massive offshoring of jobs and corporate tax cuts under his watch? Claiming that highly simplified statements are facts that don't take into account, when the reality is that things are a lot more complicated than nuanced is it helpful in dissuading people who might find Ryan's commentary helpful. It is completely possible to say things that are technically correct, but still don't provide a full picture of what the facts actually are. Besides, if you don't like what Ryan is saying, why bother listening in? If a commentator says things that I find annoying or factually inaccurate, I simply move on.

@@scottk1525 The Stoic virtue of Justice does involve politics. Politics and ethics are intertwined. There is literally a discipline within politics called political ethics. If politics and ethics are not intertwined, then why is there a discipline within politics named political ethics and why did many Roman Stoics such as Cato the Younger decide to join politics to preserve the Roman values that they thought were superior? Moreover, why did Cato the younger fight to the death when facing his antagonist Julius Caesar? Cato the younger fought to the death because he wanted to preserve a form of government that he believed was morally correct. Is that not political ethics? Therefore, Justice does involve ethics and politics because they are intertwined. Moreover, your claim "Justice is ethics, not politics. And certainly not modern day politics" is invalid. Modern day politics is the same exact thing as politics throughout human history. The current form of politics is the same form of politics from the past. It's simply humans running for election (Ex. U.S. President) or chosen to a leadership position (Ex. king/ monarch) and debating on why their views better that their opponent(s)' views. No change there. Finally, I'm not saying whether I am for one party or another. I clearly see he is not a Trump supporter. With that said, everyone (including Ryan) is entitled to express what they believe is morally correct. He is not "Hijacking" stoicism. He is simply expressing what he believes is morally correct. He is simply expressing his version of the virtue of Justice. Trying to suppress the views of others and providing your inaccurate view of Stoicism is dangerous.

@@sebastiansaavedra6717 Ethics are the principles of morality. Politics are the official processes, arguing, bickering, squabbling, and vying for office. We get enough of the latter BS just about everywhere. I really don't need it here.

I think stoics told us that stoicism is for oneself and we should not bother about what others do…So you are a hypocrite for telling us who to vote for

It wasn’t ego, it was hedonism - a trait now encouraged by Neo leftist thinking. Bringing politics into your Chanel will ultimately destroy it Ryan. Allow your subscribers the intellectual credit to make their own political decisions.

You are entitled to your own opinion. Now please go and educate yourself about what a really Trump presidency will look like, not what you believe you voted for. Read the policy yet?

So who to vote? As a outsider I see both candidates not fit. But I would say Trump is less evil.

It's all deception. Dems sound nice, and maybe they're trying. I think the best answer is a combo of both their values, but nothing will actually move either way because both sides just want to win for themselves. Dems are the less volatile, but no positive will come from either.

Has Harris ever defrauded a children's charity? Has Harris ever been found liable for assault? Has Harris ever been sued more than 100 times for not paying workers or breaking contracts? Has Harris ever attempted a coup? Has Harris ever run multiple fraudulent businesses? Has Harris ever been convicted of a felony? I'm curious what things Harris has done to make you think they were more evil than the things mentioned.

It really doesnt matter, even if all these people are trying to tell us it does. Vote red if you want things to progress slower, vote blue if you want to progress faster. Its all going in one direction regardless. What really defines our future are techological and medical advancement, not politicians. Only a matter of time till ai and automatio is so advanced all this stuff wont matter. Things like unemployment wont be a peoblem when machines do all the work or abortion wont be a debated issue anymore when babies are grown in artificial wombs etc.

Who didn't take accountability for border, didn't visit it once in their 3.5 years. Cant admit that their policies caused warsband cantvemd them, that they are weak cant keep the world together, who destroy the economy all they care about is staying in power like Nero. Who admit they won't do anything differently if they could go back in time? This video is extremely biased.. CNN is the one source you can never trust and quote.
