Another great visualization. The only oversight is the current shouldn't be flowing constantly from the coil, but should match the ignition timing. Also the way current flow is represented it completely irrelevant to ignition systems and pretty much anything having to do with practical application of electricity, which is why conventional current flow (+ to -, like in this video) is used almost universally in electronics and engineering.

Instead of 8 teeth the reluctor should have only 4 teeth since its a 4 cyl engine. The emf is induced only 4 times per crankshaft rotation and not always as shown. Reluctor teeth approaches the pickup coil exactly when the distributor rotor approaches the distributor point.

Ok, so what then controls spark advance?
@DIYAutoHomeschool
@DIYAutoHomeschool 9 жыл бұрын
In this kind of system, the Ignition Control Module controls the spark advance. Rather than the older style mechanical advance and vacuum advance systems, the Ignition Control Module uses reading from the Crankshaft Position Sensor (for crankshaft speed) and a MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor to determine the amount of spark advance needed. It will determine advance needed, and fire the coil that much sooner to achieve this.
@theglengineer
@theglengineer 9 ай бұрын
@@DIYAutoHomeschool This! How can the spark fire sooner if the distributor cap is not turning with respect to the shaft coming up from the engine? Put another way, if the ECM fires 15 degrees sooner, then it's firing when the rotor electrode and the cap electrode are nowhere near each other.

if an ignition module goes bad can it then cause an almost continuous spark that throws the whole timing process of combustion off? I am pretty sure it can and this is why my john deere riding mower won’t start. The ignition module must be bad and why I am getting flame out of carburetor when trying to start it. The spark is burning off the gas upon intake before it even compresses and reaches the correct time for the power stroke! it’s sparking all the time at all the wrong intervals, viola! anyone agree?? thanks

how is the voltage generated for the Signal to Electronic Ignition Module when the reluctor tooth is in front of the pick up coil. Can anyone provide me the right answer please thank you.. ^^
@simplyconnected
@simplyconnected 10 жыл бұрын
You need to show a COLLAPSING FIELD in the coil. When points close, current flows in the coil which saturates the iron. When points (or Electronic Ignition) OPENS, that magnetism quickly collapses crossing hundreds of windings, and producing thousands of volts from the original 12 volts. SHOW THE COLLAPSING FIELD which produces SPARK. High voltage current returns as a ground through the block and back through the coil case. Low voltage current returns through the points, block, and back to the battery.

You have a car that self-starts? I know what remote start is but not, self start. That sounds scary.
@TiberiusStorm
@TiberiusStorm 7 жыл бұрын
When you say collapses, do you mean that when the magnetism stops in the Primary winding, the power can then jump to the Secondary?
@simplyconnected
@simplyconnected 7 жыл бұрын
Magnetism is produced by current flowing through wires. We call this magnetism, "lines of flux". When the wires are wound around an iron core, the lines of flux multiplies. When current stops, the lines of flux quickly releases and crosses the wires, producing high voltage in the opposite direction. We call this mutual induction and it is what causes spark. It happens when points OPEN, not when they close.
@TiberiusStorm

I'm still confused as to what it means by collapses though!

Sir what is the advantage of armature coil over the contact breaker please tell
@meteakyurt2476
@meteakyurt2476 3 жыл бұрын
from Wiki: The disadvantage of the mechanical system is the use of breaker points to interrupt the low-voltage high-current through the primary winding of the coil; the points are subject to mechanical wear where they ride the cam to open and shut, as well as oxidation and burning at the contact surfaces from the constant sparking. They require regular adjustment to compensate for wear, and the opening of the contact breakers, which is responsible for spark timing, is subject to mechanical variations.

@mbarizia

i have a question that may look stupid to anyone who already knows the answer 0.O When 50000 volts jumps from the central electrode to the ground electrode on the spark plug, doesn't that this electric power meant to be also affecting the body of the car? how we don't feel anything when we touch a metal part on a car with a running engine?
@marcustornea2821
@marcustornea2821 7 жыл бұрын
mbarizia The spark plug is insulated from the environment. The electricity is only meant to flow from the central electrode to ground electrode as it is the easiest way back to the battery. Electrons are just like humans with common sense. They're not going to waste time travelling through every other metal in the car finding another way back to the battery when they know there already is one.
