What music did you use for the interview? And great interview!

Thank you! The music I got was from Epidemic Sound. It’s “Last Odyssey” by ELFL. I totally dig the vibe of it. It definitely has a Stranger Things feel, and I think it goes with the topic of brain stuff and with the neon background :D

@@SimonsBookClub Thanks for sharing it!!! It definitely fits man! I actually find most music in videos offensive to the ears, but this was really nice and you got the sound level perfect. You might like Orbital Romance by Sir Cubworth and Mars and Stars by Dan-O :]

Oooh! Thank you for the suggestions. And I’m so glad you appreciate the sound levels. It’s something I think about a lot and fiddle with, and I’m never sure if it’s too loud or not. I’m glad I got it right. Yes!!!

Emotion are really you they are part of you

I can understand that thought, and it's something that's in pop psychology a lot as well, but the science for it doesn't really hold up. It also depends on what we mean by the word "emotion," and what it means for something to be a part of you, but that's an entirely different (and long) conversation :D

Simon! These interviews are awesome!! What a score! Thought/comment? Eh, more unrequested advice, so apologies and continue as you wish. Edit: you know what? I deleted it. It was about having the author tagged as a keyword, but honestly, you know better than me on this topic. I haven't ever navigated tagging a youtube video, and though I want to give advice that could help people find you, my comment was probably like a normie going up to a seasoned musician and telling them they should consider adding dynamics to their music or something. Ignore me! Still awesome interview, and I love that you landed it and shared it!

Thank you for the kind words. I’m glad you liked the interview. And, to be honest, I kinda share your uncertainty about how to tag/label this video. Do I include the book title, or the author? Or what part of the interview it is? I’m not sure. I wanted to place this within the whole scope of the playlist of videos, since I think you really need to know the ideas from the other videos to connect with this interview more, no? Again, I’m not too sure here. Either way, I still really enjoyed the interview, and I’m happy that I’m not the only one who did. Hopefully, I can get more authors on to talk about their ideas. Fingers crossed :D

@@SimonsBookClub Definitely makes sense. I think it is a good idea to link this interview with the context of the series! There are no right or wrong answers, and it can be difficult to know what info you want to lean into in what ways as you put a video out! Fingers crossed indeed!! :D

Still have more to watch but my first thoughts right away ; Fascinating. And really great question. I wonder how to completely reupholster and renovate our emotional responses. Can we relearn emotions? I would love to make my brain send oxytocin and serotonin when I'm stressed and depressed. This has to be possible, in some way right? Looking forward to finishing

I hear you. I’m definitely trying to rewire my approach to life and relationships to be less dopamine driven, and more oxytocin/serotonin focused. I’ve been reading “Love 2.0” lately, and the author there offers us a way to relearn love, so to speak, so that it triggers more oxytocin, and not so much the testosterone of lust and dopamine of longing. So, yeah, it’s possible, I think, and people have learned emotions in ways that aren’t as stressful as we find them. In Love 2.0, we trigger oxytocin through mindful presence with another person. Not through distraction, not through show, but through truly listening to what’s alive in another person, and holding space for them. I think that people who train this kind of mindful presence, so that it can be their default behavioural response to others, are bathed in a different chemistry than stress and depression.
