Abiy Ahmed is definitely the man to blame. Don’t get surprised if Ethiopia doesn’t exist anymore then coming years. Don’t get me started on the problem with Sudan, Eritrea and Somalia. This is the only comment that makes sense. Many people blame Abiy for debt default and conflict as if he is the one who brought these. The debt default was because of the reckless borrowing and misuse of the fund by tplf. Ethnic tensions were installed by tplf. Ethiopian elites of all sects are ungovernable.

Egypt is happy to see this happening. They’ll fund any opposition to a cohesive federalized government. China and Russia do not stand to gain any geopolitical gains against the west, so they’ve no motivation to pick a side. There’d have to be a disruption to trade to have the west get involved. I don’t see any of the groups involved capable of that. No, this could quickly devolve into a bloody ethnic based slaughter largely ignored by the developed world. That will be worse than if the it wasn’t.

I hate it when people emphasise that African countries are 'artificial' as though European or Asian countries are somehow 'natural'. Believe or not, most countries are made up of people who used consider themselves different - it is just the passage of time that made them one people. Do you think France is made of one people? Or China? Or Germany? Russia? India? Saudi? It's such a facile point yet EVERYONE repeats it
@BlueIvory4
@BlueIvory4 4 ай бұрын
The Germans spoke different dialects of the same language, the French are similar in this regard (even Occitan is closely related to French), China is the same. Ethiopia literally has 3 whole linguistic families in its country. There is no way to unite these people unless they all adopt a foreign culture to replace their ethnic ones. It’s best they go their separate ways for everyone’s sake Edited: This is forgetting the religious divides in Ethiopia that simply aren’t present in the countries used in your example

So many errors makes the video unwatchable. Example: 9:55 it was the widespread Oromo youth protests that led the government led by TPLF to transfer power. The Amhara efforts helped the cause but it is by no means the one that pressured TPLF to negotiation for political reform. 17:27 that is not Eritrea's president. He is Sudan's military leader Al Burhan. 6:10 people shown in the pictures are not Tigrayan leaders Video is full of misunderstanding of Ethiopian politics, which by itself is complex and requires a lot of research and consideration.

Sometimes I wonder if Balkanization is the best thing that can happen to Africa. It's shown again and again that African ethnic groups are unable to work with each other. I somewhat agree but you are generalising a bit here. Not all African countries have this issue bro, some countries have managed to thrive despite their complex ethnic makeups. Botswana has about 12 different significant groups yet is one of the most stable countries not just in Africa but across the world. Same goes for Namibia and Gabon (despite their recent coup, but that was less to do with ethnicity)

Idunno, multiethnic states used to work okay in many parts of Africa before the colonial period. It's not just that people with no common heritage got arbitrarily grouped into countries by the colonizers, it's also the introduction of European ethnonationalist ideas that's been causing strife. If these groups had always been at each others' throats, their settlements wouldn't be as mixed-together as we find them today, they'd have driven each other out long ago. _If_ people can get over ethnocentric ideology, they ought to get along much better.

Balkanisation would not just result in conflict during the break-up, it would result in frequent low-intensity warfare amongst the newly independent ethnic groups. These places would be so poor and isolated that their only hope of development would be to concentrate resources through expansion and a metus hostilis. You would simply see imperial projects replace civil wars.

😂 30%of Ethiopia belongs to somalia. It's called the Somali region and it's populated and governed by Somalis who have long wanted to rejoin Somalia after the british awarded it to Ethiopia for helping against the Italians. Somalia has also received military assurances from Egypt, who has its own existential problems with Ethiopia, to ensure Somali sovereignty isn't denigrated by an invasion. Somaliland is not a united entity. They literally just lost a civil war and their eastern territory to a people seeking to be a seperate federal state of Somalia called Khatuumo. In their west and the only viable link to Ethiopia another region has defected from it called Awdal which also seeks to be recognised as a federal state of Somalia. 16:50 about Hemedetti, I am certain that he will ally with the Gov of Ethiopia rather than FANO, because both Ethiopia and Hemedetti's RSF are supported by the UAE, in fact, Hemedetti was in Addis Ababa few weeks ago in a trip of international rehabilitation, were he will visit several African countries to gain legitimacy over Sudanese Armed forces who are supported by Egypt. So, FANO and RSF alliance is not possible, because RSF and Ethiopia are in the same team already. 17:50 Second thing is that, Tigray is no longer fighting the Gov of Ethiopia, since it had a peace talks which were successful, and the Gov of Ethiopia and Tigranians have a common enemies who are Eritrea and FANO, so Tigray being that supposed war is not logical.

I wouldn't say Ethiopia would cease to exist if some areas secede-the Amhara at least would likely still call their country "Ethiopia," and some other ethnic groups would likely be part of it as well. Most of Ethiopian history has centered around the history of the Habesha people (Tigray and Amhara people), with other groups like the Somalis, Oromo, etc, mostly being incorporated after the conquest of Menelik II in the 19th century. I'm sure it would continue on in some form even if there was a partition, it just wouldn't be as big of a country or encompass so many ethnic groups.

Oromia would become an own nation wich has almost 30-35 million inhabitants. The southern regions will also form an own nation. And Ogaden would join Somalia. @connecteddthoughts
@connecteddthoughts 4 ай бұрын
@@countcryptonite That's the thing--these borders aren't white nor are they colonial. Ethiopia is one of the oldest nations on earth, and no, its people are not culturally the same. The reason for this is geography. Being mountainous has advantages when defending yourself from invasion, such as the Somali and Italian invasions of Ethiopia. But it is a double edged sword. Without an external enemy to promote unity, the people are simply too isolated. Despite living in proximity for literally thousands of years, their cultures evolved separately because the mountains keep people isolated for the most part. This reminds me of the Italian city states era. same issue. Ethiopia only became unified due to the empires mostly from Tigray and Amhara,, which is where Habesha culture came from. That is not inherently a bad thing, as the other tribes didn't have written languages or much organization. Ethiopia is not the most diverse country in the world, some competitors to that include the United States and India, both of which are unified despite being incredibly diverse. Ethiopia needs three things, realistically. Firstly, increased trade between regions. Build a rail line between the capitols of every region. From Mekelle to Bahr Dar, From Bahr Dar to Adama, From Adama to Jijiga, and all connected to Addis. I am not really against Abby's recognition of Somaliland, regardless of what anyone says. Get that port at all costs. Don't let Djibouti price gouge. Dont waste money on a navy, build the port and build a rail line to the closest major city. Secondly, diplomatic effort. Invite Fano, Tigray, and OLF to a roundtable. Figure it out. No preconditions. If it were me, I'd invite them into a room then lock the door. No one leaves until an agreement is reached. No guns inside, just unarmed security to prevent physical fights. Even if a fight breaks out or someone is injured , dont stop the meeting. And thirdly, unifying forces. Cross cultural exchange program. Military bootcamp as national service (not controversial, many safer countries do this, including South Korea, Sweden, and Israel. Reinstitute the cross cultural teaching program that the communist government had. That's one of the few things I would actually thank the Derg for.
