It's f**king criminal that Henry never won a Ballon d'Or. I grew up in this period and honestly, I can't describe how good Henry was as a kid. He was magic. Teams used to s**t themesleves when Henry ran at defenders. It's sad we didn't win the league in 2003 as we played some incredible football that season, just as good as the unbeaten league season. 2002-2006 he was the best in the world. Looking at today's Arsenal team, we need a Henry-like player. A goalscorer. Someone like him who can net 20-30 goals.
@chriswilliamson76945 ай бұрын
I see this point all the time. Why is it outrageous? In what year was he clearly more deserving, successful, impressive etc. than any of the winners?
@TH14Comps5 ай бұрын
03 Nedved was obviously not as good as Henry, but u can argue his CL performances deserved it. It's just weird that Henry came 2nd in both the FIFA award and the Ballon d'or, and lost out in each to a player that wasn't even in the top 3 for the other award. Especially since the only international tournament that year, the confed cup, was dominated by Henry. I think Henry deserved it, it's not like he was bad in the CL, and he still led Arsenal to 2nd, an fa cup, and had success with France - but Nedved was an OK choice. Shevchenko in 04 made much less sense. He didn't even have the CL claim Nedved did. Henry scored more, assisted more, was a better footballer, and was huge for the invincibles. Ronaldinho or Deco winning would've been somewhat understandable, but Henry for his consistency deserved it imo. No big players had a good euros that year, as Greece spoiled it for everyone - but Henry faced huge criticism and blame after France's loss to Greece. I think that cost him. Shevchenko, while absolutely being one of the most feared strikers for a few years, was not the best player in the world at that point. He won that purely off his past reputation, and the blame Henry took for France's defeat. 06 should've been either Ronaldinho or Henry. Everyone knew they were the 2 best players. Ronnie won La Liga and led Barca to the CL, but was poor in the world cup. Henry had a good world cup, and carried a young Arsenal team to the CL final - if Nedved deserved 03 for his performance in the champions league, then Henry surely deserved this. But he came 3rd behind Cannavaro and Buffon - who only had a good world cup. They were both knocked out the CL by Henry's Arsenal, and were stripped of the serie a title and relegated. Somehow Ronaldinho only came 4th. Overall, 03 was his clear peak imo, but lack of team success and Nedved's heroics in the CL makes it OK I guess (tho for me it's still silly). 04 was a travesty. 06 was also insane. You can make an argument he didn't deserve any of them - but it's kinda like arguing Messi didn't deserve it in 2012 just coz he didn't win the league and champions league. You'd basically have to ignore that this was obviously the best player in the world. The ballon d'or has always been a bit of a joke, but in the 2000s it was a complete shambles.

His movement was honestly so good and he was quick on top of that, but his positioning and dribbling made it even better, at 2:48 the dribble up to that goal most players aren't that controlled at getting the ball between two players like that and he moves his body to use his right most players just use their left. Such a good player.

This is a fantastic idea for a video. Thanks for putting it together. So many of my Spurs friends and family seem to completely underplay Thierry as a player. These videos truly serve as a reminder to the skill of Thierry. The man was quite simply a poet on the pitch. Pure poetry.

I started supporting Arsenal as a kid at around this time because I had older cousins and uncles who supported Arsenal. I don't have much recollection of the live games but I was lucky that one of my cousins always got the end of season goal show/compilations for Arsenal which wasn't easy to do back in those days living in Kenya. Either way, being able to watch back these performances by Henry & the rest of the team in this era was a real blessing. To this day, I still don't know how Henry missed out on the Ballon d'Or.

Nowadays youre gifted football wise to live in Kenya. Every match seems to be on tv here. In Ireland it costs about 140 thousand ksh a year just for SKY.
@brxan30963 ай бұрын
@@irieite9666 yeah, I've heard about this over the years from a few people I know in the UK but never in Ireland. It's crazy that the people there have to pay for all those different subscriptions to different broadcasters while folks in the rest of Europe & Africa just pay one broadcaster & forget about it. DSTV have done well in this regard over the last 2 decades.

man had a frightening balance and mix of graceful technique, explosive pace, incredible strength and a reading of the game and opponents that made him a nightmare to play against. as a child, i remember the most frightening thing about him was that he didn't have to play well like that for the whole 90. in 5 minutes he could completely wrap up a game on his own.
