Syracuse fan here - The zone worked, we couldn't score because Houston is a legitimately great defensive team. I thought the refs were solid, unlike when we played WVU who gets high praise for their defense but basically just reaches in all game. Houston played legitimate defense, there were a few bad no calls, but nothing crazy and I tip my hat off to UH.

Every year there's these good defensive teams in the NCAA's and then when I watch them I find that they basically hand check and reach in and the refs just won't call it (i.e. UVA, WVU, etc). And a lot of unwarranted charging calls (i.e. Duke). Houston wasn't that way. They played defense the ole fashioned way...they moved their feet. When the hand checked or reached in they were called for the foul. When they drew charges, they were legitimate. I usually roll my eyes when I hear about great college defensive teams...but Houston is the real deal. I hope they win the whole thing.

@@richiehunt5097 Yeah I totally agree. “Great defense” just means fouling and getting away with it half the time nowadays. I’m a Wolverines fan and I think Juwan Howard has implemented a wonderful scheme and just built together a cohesive, efficient group that plays the game right. Scooter made a comment in the FSU section about fouls (FSU had 20+ all game and Michigan might have had around 10), but honestly there were a few iffy calls but Michigan played a clean game. They moved their feet, used their hands properly and contested shots while rebounding the ball. Houston did the same against you guys. Really nothing to be skeptical about in either game, plus I just don’t see any turn of fouls turning the outcome of either game as the teams on the losing end of both were honestly just thoroughly outplayed. As for you guys, I think you guys had a good run, nothing to be too upset about (you beat the pesky defensive Mountaineers)
