I was very pleased with the Platinum Prefounte fountain pen, (find it on Federalist Pens here: federalistpens... ) definitely seems like a good grab for anyone at this price point. Still, the main downside for me is the lack of an included piston converter. I don't like feeling like I'm about to run out of ink, and the only solution being either ordering more cartridges (or an $8 converter) or trying to refill the cartridge with a syringe, which actually is kind of a fun pen-tinkering adventure sometimes, even if it can get a little messy. I just don't like to feel held back by my pens, and that's what a cartridge does for me.
That aside, this does feel like a solid pen for a beginner or a good addition to anyone's collection, it feels practical and can be used when you may not want to use a more expensive pen. It doesn't do a lot of flexing, but it flows well and feels good.
