You can get 40-50yds with a 5wt fly rod. Those plastic bobbers also only add drag and shorten the casting distance. Something better than a Walmart rod helps too.

Casting two bobbers and some split shot is not a very good way to test how far you can cast. I can cast a 1/2 oz frog far further than that. It's not string, it's line. String is made from cotton or other woven fibers. You can cast far longer distances with the right rod (not pole) with the right line. You can spool up some 10lb braid and try a single bass casting weight and bomb a cast far further than that I bet. Give it a shot! Keep learning!
