Love the insight on 7 iron tech / loft, I’ve never thought of it that way. I always just think of the stronger lofted clubs going further, clearly not that simple!

Male golfers have two yardages for each club. There’s actual distance and comment section distance, which tends to be 40 yards longer on average.

I hit the ball the same distances as you Hannah - so I’m pretty happy as 55. I’ve always thought that amateur golfers should watch LGPA swings etc and not the males on PGA as they are more relevant. I did genuinely hit two drives over 280 on Sunday, surprised myself…the fairways are finally hard and cut short after months of soggy wet conditions…is summer here finally? Club head speed drills would be good 👍🏼

I used to be a personal trainer and I had a lot of pro golfers and players trying to turn pro.. including Amy Yang when she won on the LPGA tour as a school kid (16) and Ian Roberts who won the Canadian Open… I’ve only seen a handful of players that are ridiculously long (like Rory) most are just super skilled and long… I had 3 players who hit driver 280/290m carry , pitching 140m carry and only one played on tour the other two missed their chance

I'm 75 now so my distance on every club is not very far but I still get many out there. These days I hit longer clubs than the rest of the group I play with. We have 2 holes on our course that I hate, both require getting over water to hit the green😢 these days I take my 5 wood on 1 and hit smooth and a hybrid on the other ( 10 years ago 7 iron) this last month I have made par or better on every round

I am a 14 handicapper and I am slightly longer than the average distances you quoted. I have played against people who claim to hit the ball as far as Rory but they don’t 😂 I only know one guy who drops in and out of golf and plays with hand me down clubs who truly hits a very long ball. Last time I played with him, he played our 17th which is 465/475 from the yellows on that day it was 475. For him it was a Driver and 9 iron.

So …. Distances are different for club payers because we play in all weathers not just lovely sunshine as the pros do ! Temperature makes a big difference as does the softness of the ground. For a club player having clubs that increase distance through tech is key because it’s unlikely we will generate much different speeds only playing once / twice a week . For me the T400’s give me 1 to 2 clubs more distance. That is massively helpful to someone who drives the ball 220 yards. My woods/ hybrids are crucial as they are often my second shot. 6.7,8 iron aren’t used that much . But 9 PW and wedges are super critical to get close to the pin for a 1 put par. Otherwise it’s bogie golf , for a 14 handicapper. Unless you trust your swing to rip it , there is always a limit to speed for a club player to ensure the ball is in play. Thanks Hannah , best I practice putting that’s 18 shots I can loose if I putt well on a round !

Great video 👏👏 this surprised me that I hit my driver and 7iron a little bit longer than LPGA tour pros , which I’m happy with - I think that most players unless they are budding tour pros should try to achieve these kind of distances with accuracy to become a really good player as most of us have no chance to hit the ball like Rory

Unless you don’t have yardage markers at your driving range, I don’t get how one doesn’t know their actual yardages. To that end, I do think people over estimate their best distance compared to their average. I would absolutely love to see episodes on how to increase club head speed. The work that I have done so far has allowed me to hit my yardages more often, not necessarily make longer. At least that’s what my pesky Arccos sensors tell me.

Excellent video Hannah, probably half of the PGA Tour players carry their traditional lofted 7 irons 190+ with the real bombers hitting them 200+, plus nowadays there are also loads of college players in the US who are equally long and Gordon Sargent would be a prime example with his driver ball speed of well over 190 mph, so maybe all amateur golfers need to start hitting the gym and doing speed training to gain some extra distance.

@@CharlotteK2008Totally agree, i went to Portugal in the spring and according to Arcoss my average drive for my time there was 265 yards, in the UK its 239, so ball flying further and run out in Portugal
@scottwatson9479
@scottwatson9479 7 ай бұрын
@@CharlotteK2008 Yes its a very valid point that the ball travels quite a bit further in hotter temperatures but its the clubhead speed of the PGA Tour players which is super impressive, loads of amateur golfers and LPGA Tour players swing their drivers at about 95-100 mph whereas bombers like Rory swing their 7 irons at 100+ mph, there is a direct correlation between ball speed and carry distance but these players' clubhead speeds remain pretty consistent irrespective of the temperature.

I think one of the most important stats is the proximity to flag on approach shots and put success on greens. If you look at the men's pro stats they aren't as amazing as the highlights would suggest and they don't always make their putts. Good to know so you don't beat yourself up for not holeing all your 10ft putts. Rory is a good example 😬

I told him im trying to carry between 225 and 235 for total distance of 245 -260 and he was like "most dudes who come in here say they carry 285 amd total 300+... And i can tell from the first swing they don't!" 😆 😆

Interesting, been looking at stats on and off for years and I'm a 13hcp player and carry my 7 iron around 170-175 steady and can munch it to 182 absolutely full out. Which then makes me wonder why some of the other irons I'm similar-ish but the driver is so far behind. That one club (that I was properly fitted for) is now only carrying about 255, 260 on a really good day. Just can't get my head around that one but I know it's very likely poor technique on my part somewhere.................

I'd like to know how to swing without pain. I had to quit after 13 holes today due to intense neck pain. That said, my distance have been going down significantly as I've aged. My 150 club used to be my 8 or 9 iron, now it's my 6 or 7 iron. My driver has really gone down even more, from 260 average with roll, to 230 with roll. I don't have devices to measure carry distances.

Hanna, Rory plays in hot weather, and the ball runs for miles. If he played in the UK for the last 15 months, cold northerly winds, soggy fairways, he wouldn’t be as long. Luke Kwon playing in NZ in winter was hitting similar irons into par 3’s as would, yet he’s 2 clubs better when he’s in Florida, in NZ there was more wind, cold and so carry is compromised. In a simulator I carry 7 iron 175 yards, yet play for 155-160 when in winter at a par 3.
@stephenmcgregor5479

The reason the 7 iron seams to have so much importance, whenever you visit a pro for fitting of coaching they always ask you to use your 7 iron as an average of source of comparison for some only known to them.

I hit the ball well - long and straight. I hit several drives well over 250y today and all were pretty straight. Two went over 290y (wind assisted). My 4 hybrid goes around 200y. So why am I a 24 handicapper? Because I have absolutely no feel once I’m within 50y of the green 🤬 and I 3-put sooo many times. It’s so bl**dy annoying to be near the par 5 green in two shots and still shoot a 7 🙄

Good luck trying to add swing speed. Most of that is driven by physical limitations. I have tried for 18 months and seen no change. You can see people like Rick Shiels who did swing speed training and they're really not getting much more out of it. Your physical baseline is king.

See, this is why I find watching the LPGA tour, or female youtube golfers a lot more relatable than PGA Tour golfers. Dunno what they're playing. Call it Gorilla Gouge or something. But it's not the game of golf I've played since I started in the early 70's. ESPECIALLY with my deteriorating early Senior swing speed! Whereas I can relate to the distances the women are hitting, even if I struggle to get close to it. I can relate to the tees they play from, the length of the holes they play. I can relate to the shot distances they have on the course, even if I need 1-2 more clubs to hit them. It's REAL! PGA Tour players hitting wedges farther than I can hit my middle irons? Sorry. Just doesn't grab me anymore!
