This one was SO.MUCH.FUN!! I thought I would try my hand at some speed puzzling, using the puzzle from qualifying round A of the puzzle championships 2022. This is London Postcard - Ravensburger - 500 pieces and it’s gorgeous.
So how fast did I manage it? Watch til the end to find out…😃

Hiya! Let me know what you all think of my time 😃. Also I’d be interested to hear if you like this kind of video, and would you like to see more? I don’t normally do speed puzzling, but I enjoyed making this video so much that I’d very happily do more! (It’s also a good way for me to practice, if I ever do decide to go to Spain for the championships one day 😍). Hope you enjoy the premiere!

I watched the 2023 championship, found by accident. Alexandro was fascinating to watch. This led me to finding YOUR website. So in 2 wks I’ve ‘gobbled’ all the info. you shared in 1/2 of all your posts; I continue. Yesterday I bought myself a puzzle ‘Dragon Clan’ by Eurographics. Vicky you are 100% responsible for my new addiction. I researched it at home to find it’s supposed to be hard, difficult, expert. I’ll need to use ALL your tools; I haven’t done a puzzle in over 45 yrs. & only few in my entire life. I wish you’d get this one & do it on your channel. Your time was fabulous!

I think your time is amazing. I am not a fast puzzler so I am always impressed with timed puzzles. I saw that image during the puzzle competition and it’s so colorful and happy. Definitely an image that I would want to try. I just will not be timing myself. I will watch any video that you take the time to put together.

Thank you Carrie! I usually don’t bother about time either, but I must admit this was really good fun. I think for me, to do a puzzle from start to finish with no interruptions was the most fun part of the process 😆 the speed element was a fun challenge too, but it wasn’t in any way a stressor, I just enjoyed it! Having said that, I’d probably be a nervous wreck if I was actually in Spain at the Championships! I agree the puzzle is gorgeous - I think you would love it if you did try it! 😍

That's a very good time for your first speed run. I looked up the times online and that would have been fast enough to qualify for the final not to shabby at all!! If u enjoy it why not give it a go. Personally I find it counter productive as I puzzle to de-stress.

Hiya! Thank you, that’s pretty cool that I would have got through to the finals, I didn’t think I was fast enough 😊. I do enjoy it, and would love to go to Spain one year; will probably need to wait until the kids are a little older though now 😍. I find puzzling to be like therapy for me, but I was surprised how much I actually enjoyed the speed puzzling. I thought I’d be stressed, but I wasn’t - it just felt like I had an hour’s uninterrupted puzzling, with no other concerns than the puzzle itself. Of course, a competition atmosphere, might feel very different I think 😆! Thanks for watching

There is a Value vs non value video on Lean made simple channel. I just think about how it is related to speed puzzling. What is the real value? Normally there are some standard process steps, unboxing, flipping, sorting groups based on edge/non edges or pattern or color. Then assembling small groups, or makeing first the edge. A lots of trial, rotating.... In the ideal world, every piece is flipped, and we know the exact location (no need to lookfor on the image), and can move there. This is the value. What are wastes here? finding, trial, put back, trial again, move small assembled parts, moving flipped and grouped pieces because we have too much inventory and we dont have enough space on table....😀
@Vickymakesandbuilds
@Vickymakesandbuilds 8 ай бұрын
That would be ideal! 😄 I suppose practice helps with being able to spot the location faster and cut down on the ‘non value’ parts such as trial and error testing etc. It’s all good fun though, whatever the speed 🥰

So fun, and well done you! This is the first puzzle video I've persuaded my partner (a non-puzzler, bless him) to watch. He clapped when you finished :) After watching the Championships in Spain, this was exactly what I wanted to do - give it a go myself! I actually interviewed the guy who came last (a lovely chap, who was just thrilled to be part of it all), and he showed me the puzzles he was given. I'm trying to get my hands on the rainbow flower puzzle (Prelim B) now and have a go at speed puzzling myself.

I think I might pass by the bookshop tomorrow as I do have to go to the city for something else, so I might as well go a bit earlier. And if I do find a decent 500 piece puzzle, I might try to speed it. The urge has kind of been there since the puzzle championships... I have never tried it so I don't exactly know how long I would take. I have never actually done a 500 piece puzzle either, so I don't know even how long it takes when I'm taking my time. 😆 But that being said, 1h3m is very respectable. There were many at the championships who didn't manage to finish at all within the given 90 minutes.

Bought the same puzzle, will try the same thing. I hope this kind of competition gets more people hyped. I think it is interesting to learn strategies to puzzle efficiently. Secondly, I do not think it is that exhausting at all, even with the timer it is still to some degree relaxing and calming the mind. I did a bunch of 1000 piece puzzles already with a timer and the motivation to do them quickly. One I did in a single session without any breaks (~3.5h). It is a weird kind of relaxation that I mainly perceived in my brain. Although I was very busy moving puzzle pieces and getting up and down my chair, my brain just stopped being bothered with anything outside of the puzzle and a few words or phrases that kept looping in my brain. Only my back hates this :D
@Vickymakesandbuilds
@Vickymakesandbuilds Жыл бұрын
I know what you mean with that last part. You just kind of get into a zone with it sometimes don’t you? I don’t think it’s the physical speed puzzling that I find exhausting, so much as the psychological pressure I put on myself. Then the relief when it’s done, even though I’ve loved the whole thing. I suppose it’s just the competitive element that makes me feel that way. Will you be tuning in to the #botyp event? (Battle of the KZbin Puzzlers). If you have not heard about it, take a look at my community tab! Myself and 4 other YT puzzlers are competing in a speed puzzling contest on 30th January. There will be an online form you can fill in, if you wish to join in; you just put in your name, country and time and them submit. Everyone will have until 28th Feb to do it. That’s great timing! Congratulations. I’d find that so stressful, exactly opposite of why I puzzle ☺️. Did you find that the fit was different? I’ve noticed my Ravensburger puzzles that are 2022 fit more snuggly and are ever so slightly flatter. Could just be in my head though.

Thank you! I am pleased with the time 😍. I think I would have been stressed in a real competition, but for me, it was an hour’s free puzzling time, uninterrupted…which was really rather nice! The cat was trying to get in the room of course, but it was just some meowing, not too much of a distraction 😆. I didn’t notice that the pieces were flatter, but I did notice that they fit more snugly now that you mention it. They went in really satisfyingly, which was great! I actually did a puzzle pick up on it afterward (I forgot to put that in the video) and it held superbly, so I don’t think the fit thing is in your head 😃

I would say you can’t really go wrong with a Ravensburger! They are great quality, the piece shapes are varied and a lot of choice in terms of images too. Clementoni are another good one too 😍

Hi Vicky. I think you might of had a better time if you had not focused on doing the edges 1st and started putting each group you sorted together. Good job.

I agree, I actually said that in the chat as well. I think I should have sorted and then dived in! I think my time was good, but I definitely learned a lot from this - ways I would do it differently in hindsight! 😊

Ooh, cool!! I watched Karen Puzzles video on the competition in Spain recently and I've thought about doing the same thing...I'm just curious about what time I would get. You got a decent time, well done 👏
