FUN FACT: You CAN NOT turn off the Apple Watch while it is on a charger. You must take it off any MagSafe charger and turn it off then. All options will be greyed out until then.

Just a tip, the apple watches don't allow you to power them off while connected to a charger. I just found that out yesterday when repairing one.

I may be wrong, but I think it's got something to do with the system trying to monitor the charge(Potentially to extend/decrease battery life), which it will not he able to do if shut down

you have to transfer nfc chip from old display as well, for Apple pay functionality. So this is only partial repair :(

You can restore Apple Pay functionality by transferring over the nfc chip that is on the screen on Apple Watches series 3 or older. I replaced my Apple Watch screen, and very carefully put the old nfc chip on the new screen and Apple Pay works.

Can confirm. That’s how I fixed my series 3 screen and keeping Apple Pay. Of course care is needed when taking the nfc chip off, mine left a few marks on the back of the screen visible when reassembled.

Hugh, I would recommend dipping your blade/spudger in some iso and scraping all edges before applying the new adhesive layer. I saw quite a bit of dust that you were putting that Capitan tape over!

I was thinking almost the same. The adhesive is to small in diameter and put on a dirty surface. This won't last long. 😂

hmmm. In this speedrun it looks like the biggest time loss seems to be the process of opening up the device, with a close second being the application of the adhesive. But it was way more challenging to not get the cables cut. Maybe if someone found a glitch that somehow disabled the collision on the cables for a short amount of time, allowing the runner to safely open the watch. Although I must praise how incredibly persistent Hugh was during the testing, not giving up even though RNG had screwed him over so hard. Although the sub-40 minute time WAS very impressive for such a complicated tech device. Incredible run, Hugh!

The reason why it was not pairing: The watch might have been updated at some point so something like an iOS 15 device can be used.

That iphone x should be able to run the latest ios. Try updating it then try pairing again. IOS 12 is quite behind they are on 16.4.1 right now.

Unfortunately, I can't buy a display for $50, which makes most Apple watches a total financial loss. The watch you repaired can be ordered with a display for 110 euros. Anyway, the video is great and informative, I wish I could order parts for that much. PS: An unofficial Apple service agent.

Hey mate hook the nfc up on the old display and then pair yes it is a pain but the series 3 are a pain just use the 3rd flex hooked up to old screen while the display flex and digitizer flex is hooked up to the new one

Interesting that the hardest part for you is plugging the screen in. I have much more trouble peeling the tape off to unplug them from the broken screen, as the cables are so fragile.

My old watch battery expanded and blew the screen clean off. The cable connected to the screen broke in half. Too lazy to fix it, but I won't need a heat mat when I do.

That adhesive will not last, give it a week or so and the screen will pop off, especially if you're an active person. I've repaired a few apple watches and have always told customers to get a case that encloses the watch so the screen doesn't just pop off and rip the cables. So far using cold press glue (same glue used to repair back glass) and clamp for a few hours does the trick. However it can become super messy if you're not precise with it.

Hey I have 2 questions if you could take some time to answer. First what is your opinion on back market and refurbished phones as a whole. Second I got a galaxy note 9 from them about a month ago and I feel like it was reassembled carelessly from the way the gaps are between the glass and the frame. The rear glass, the fingerprint reader and the camera glass all have a bit of play. Lastly there is something rattling inside. At this moment I don't want to take it for repair, I probably will in 1 or 2 months because the battery does not last long and I will have them check it out. Are any of the issues above an imediat concern? Thank you very much and sorry for the long comment

I have an  watch SE that is “bricked” because it updated to watchOS 9 while paired to a newer phone and now won't pair t my iPhone that EOL on iOS 15. People praise  for longevity of software updates, but they only do so because of how inflexible their platform is (including for devs to maintain old OS support); an old Android version is totally usable and definitely won't prevent you from having a new watch.

Iknow u prob wont read this, but i have a friend that told me how to NOT get error messages and lose functions after installing a new screen, battery, camera etc. All the parts have a "special" number, like a parts number, lets say the screen has number 46, If u buy a new screen then, u have to match that number in order not to lose any functions, because my friend have installed new camera and glass on a iphone 14, and no errors, faceid and everything still works. Check it up? maybe apple"s so called parts locks isnt so fancy after all?
