Hey all fellow sawyers, or those aspiring-to-be sawyers, if you’re looking at buying a sawmill here’s something to consider, how efficient is that machine going to be. Well you’ve come to the right place because in this video I’m showing you just how fast this Norwood HD36 sawmill can produce lumber. How many board feet per hour is the number I’m after. Here’s what I came up with: for one Half hour cutting cedar lumber, ( actually sawing time was less than 30 min.) But this would include things like changing blades. Filling gas tanks and what-not. I milled a total of two logs Eastern white cedar 8 ft. Long
6- 1x8x8 -31.98 BF
2- 2x4x8 -7 BF
1- 1x6x8 -4 BF
2-1x4x8 - 5.34 BF
17-1.5x1.5x8 25.5 BF. Total BF 73.82 At $1.80 per BF that’s $132.88 double those numbers and you get a board foot per hour rate of around 140 to be on the safe side. Now there may be other things that factor in, like size of logs and six] e of material you’re making, that would determine if your could hit these numbers or not. Could be more, could also be less. So in conclusion even if you’re sawing pine for .50 cents per BF that’s still around $70.00 per hr.
My personal experience, and opinion, don’t buy a Norwood unless your going to be a weekend hobby sawyer, I hope this helps, Thanks for Watching . Happy sawmilling.
