Over a year ago, I got 10 green giants and lost two of them. I only have two that are planted as single specimens and planted the others 5 ft apart. My new neighbors dog has urinated on one and killed it. That made me feel so mad. So now I have to replace it. You're tree's look great 👍

Hi I planted green giants 2 years ago 3 feet apart so far they looking really good do u think 3 ft will be ok I hear a lot of ppl doing 5 ft but I don’t want to move them around or touch them,r your trees 3 ft apart?

Did you plant them 3 feet from the main stem?

Just planted 8 of these bad boys in my front yard to block the street out (eventually). Everybody in the neighborhood keeps letting their dog walk up and pee on them. Had to install a fence in front of the trees. Problem solved 👍🏻

Hey Kyle, you mentioned in another comment that 3 feet seemed too crowded but these look like they are doing great. I am planting some around the entirety of my backyard soon, would 5ft apart look just as good? Because what you have there is how I want my backyard to be filled in.
@KentuckyKoozie5 ай бұрын
They will be fine, it just takes longer. However, once they get established after the first year they grow so fast that the difference of a couple feet won't take too long.

Hello! They look beautiful. How far apart did you plant them?
@KentuckyKoozie Жыл бұрын
mine are only 3 feet apart I didn't want to wait for a privacy hedge. They are a bit crowded. I think about 5 feet is better. I talk about this in the comments of my other green giant video.Hope that helps! Thank You.

I would trim the tops across the entire line of trees, make them all the same height, and then for the shorter trees ONLY I would fertilize them to get them caught up with the rest of the trees and then again trim all the trees the same height for a finished hedge.

I can't reach the top. need a cherry picker.

@@dammitbobby283 if you search my videos for "trimming/pruning green giant arborvitaes" just look at the thumbnail. Those things are like 30 feet tall. Im on a ladder and not even half way up. I wanted mine to grow vertical like a cone and get tall. Your idea is good too if you want a nice rectangular hedge. the growing conditions are so varied in my yard that fertilizer may not be enough for the smaller ones at this point. There is shade and wet areas.

the taller ones in your vid on the right side, whats the approx height and how wide are they at the base?

I just planted some 14ft Thujas. I’m trying so hard to make sure I keep them alive. What is your advice on pruning the first year. Should I prune or leave them alone for a year?
@KentuckyKoozie10 ай бұрын
I would hold off on the trimming if they are already shaped nicely. Unless one starts growing rapidly and develops a double top, then I would trim the less dominant top shoot. Other than that just healthy watering not too much or too little.

What makes you say that you planted them too close together? They look fine. What do you see that we can't see on the video?
@KentuckyKoozie11 ай бұрын
They are growing ok, that is true, but they would also be good not as crowded to where they just barely touched.
@joansmith68448 ай бұрын
If I’m correct it’s for future growing .. if crowded they can ? Be come stunted & not grow to there potential.. we just planted the giants for cost we went with 4 1/2 feet to start because of the quality ( from a landscape company only outlet ) we did this for privacy instead of a fence which all around dudes and back .. a lot of them so pretty it’s been 1 month & I can see growth already .. A) looks prettier B) full / talker privacy C) help the environment of birds etc .. I do not have issues w deers ( yet ) but I spray the deer repellent( pee u , but it works) after every hard rainfall .. ( we have deers ) We planted 5ft apart I take that with in 4 years we’ll have some privacy . Hopefully

How long does it take before it gets established?
@KentuckyKoozie Жыл бұрын
a couple years. Mine were tiny (6-10 inches) so they grew roots for a year, then grew a foot or so the next year and continued to get better. If you plant larger trees they will start growing as soon as transplant shock subsides. I guess, after the first year they really start growing.

Hi, I just planted 20 of them, 6 feet tall. Any advice how to make them thicker. I want them to be as you row on the right side, tall and thick. We are trying to block the noise from the street. Thank you in advance.
@KentuckyKoozie2 ай бұрын
You just need to trim them. I think I have a trimming video where I talk about how. Leave a central leader get rid of double tops etc.

I planted 6 foot green giants in my yard in May. They’ve been doing well, but recently we had a rough downpour causing standing water around their bases. Hoping it dries out and the roots don’t rot. Any advice for me?
@KentuckyKoozie Жыл бұрын
Hi. I just filmed another video and talked about some of these issues. It is in line to be posted as I have a small editing back log. I would say you will probably be fine if they dry out reasonably quick. Just make sure the wind does not blow them over or a winter snowstorm before they root well. I have a wet area that stays wet and I had to tie the green giants to the fence for support. In my case they did not get root rot at all! They are still growing ok. The soil was just so mushy they could not support themselves . If I think of anything else I will try to let you know. If you subscribed to my channel I will have another video coming up in a bit…
