Rafael Cornejo - Hmm, did your Alk consumption go down? When I had issues with too much trace the alk consumption took a dive. Do some water changes and reset the system. I dose Red Sea Trace colors. So it’s based off Calcium demand. This way it’s much safer. I only dose 1/2 the recommended dose though.

Looks great! I feel like I have the exact same experiences with my acros. some base out and blow up within 3-6months and others sit idle for the first 6 months and then finally start to grow. I will absolutely agree with the placement effecting growth. I use all LEDs and sometimes Ill have an acro where I think it should be and irt wont do anything for 6+ months. then Ill eventually find myself moving it to its own shelf on a magnet and usually that does the trick. Great content thanks for taking the time to not only snap the before and after shots but also to share them.

One of the hardest pieces of information to find on line is details on how fast corals can actually be expected to grow under good conditions and with an expert hand. Thank you for putting this together - it gives us all a target.

Your issue is obviously not water quality, flow, lighting or any other environmental issues. The corals are superb colours and they are growing steadily. You actually answered your own question at the start. You don't let corals become colonies and that is your issue. Different corals grow at different rates but if a coral branch grows 1 inch a year and you have a tiny frag then it won't look a lot. Now have a colony with 50 branches growing one inch. Then it's a different story. Your corals look excellent, very well done!

If you see this I'd like your opinion for nitrates. I'm done with biopellets and the cyanobacteria it welcomes. NoPox showed no reduction outside of my wallet. Marine pure has no chance of anaerobic nitrogen conversion with its porosity unless its in a controlled flow box risking hydrogen sulfide production. I'm thinking algae reactor. Are they really doing the job? I'm not going for 0 but I would like it to stay under 10 naturally if possible. I do my weekly water changes weekly.

What up abe.Abe.. yea still looking through your old videos. Im having a hard time keeping alkalinity up. My sps are incrusted good and I've had to glue bigger frag plates . I haven't allowed them to incrust on to the base rock yet because they are only 6 inches from the surface of the water to get the most light. Eventually when they start growing upward I will have to lower them. I have huge amounts of coraline algae covering everything. My ph is getting up to 8.5 and my alkalinity uptake is ridiculous to the point where I'm having trouble not being able to keep on top of it. I don't know if that's a good thing or bad. I know you said corals have a delayed response to changes. My alkalinity dropped from 8.3 to 7.6 . And it continued this week even though I'm adding 6mls more alkalinity a day into the system these past 7 days. .in your opinion am I going to have a problem with a alkalinity drop like that happening a second time

They generally encrust shoot up few bases, get me excited then pause, shoot up a few more than finally one takes of and grows 10X faster. Sometimes they dont encrust at all and they end up becoming top heavy... I am starting to think we are giving them too many options

I think if you are feeling frustrated by your corals growth two items to explore would be flow ( I know you have said recent videos that is not on your priority list) the other option is look into trimming a single corallite ( cutting a nub off with fragging shears) it puts the coral into repair mode which equals growth. Might be two helpful topics. Thanks for sharing the vid. Loved it

Such an amazing episode with practicality involved. Great points at the conclusion to keep your expectations reasonable interms of acro growth. There are some that will grow faster and there are some that will grow real slow. I bought a nub size frag of WD last year around Christmas and it has grown into 2" only in a year, at the same time i bought a mini 2" colony of Pink Cadillac which has now grown into a full blown colony 5-6" across diameter. I bought RR Holy Grail Acro around Feb this year and it has doubled in size and coloured up. So these animals have their own tendency and growth rate. Yep do not make quick changes.

I enjoyed your presentation. That is a very good video. One thought, you say that some acros did better under MH, which I have no doubt, but to be fair, they had some time to base out before you moved them so that was a factor. Growth comes from new nubs and will stagnate with nubs/branches from the original frag in general.

Another great video! I can’t say with any authority how good the growth rates are, but I will say it shows the importance of enough of the right kind of light. I have LED supplemented by....LED. 😁 But I’m now going to look into adding halides for my next build. The other thing you mentioned was stability and I believe that’s absolutely the key to growth. Doesn’t matter what extra booster juices you add, if your tank is not stable around the basics, the extra stuff does more harm than good. I have to say - your videos have become my go-to if I’m looking for information. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

You could make a video about rowaphos and how you do it to have a stable po4. There are so many videos about rowashos but nobody explains how to maintain it. At which po4 point must the reactor be stopped? Or you never stop it until you see a the po4 rise and then replace the rowaphos. At which po4 value will you replace the rowaphos? How much do you use for the gallons you have.. I don't know anyone who has told this in detail so far. BTW, as always a top video. Best youtube reefer in my opinion!!
@CoralEuphoria
@CoralEuphoria 5 жыл бұрын
I basically run RowaPhos through a two little fishies reactor. The small one, 150 i believe. For each my 120 in my 140 gallon, I run about 1 Cup, so its relatively a small amount. I change that out every month nowadays. Before I used to let my phosphate readings determine when I need to change the rowaphos, but now I don't even trust those test kits. So now I don't even bother testing phosphate, I just change the rowa out every month.

@@lavasyst I don't have any good tips for keeping nitrates down because I've never really had a problem with them. But I think that I never have nitrate problems because my tank is pretty clean. Confetti is the sickest coral - I saw one over here in Europe but I wasn't sure as they just show the frag. Anyhow I didn't pull the trigger. Anyhow I have a 15G and its probably just 6 months old and it's only now that I am starting to see some growth on my acros. Hopefully when I get my bigger tank this will be my QT tank and once it's been up a few months maybe I will see it again or work out a way to import it. Love this channel. I would say the growth is on the low side but I'm a noob. The thing with frags that I am hearing more and more is that they often take ages to settle in - then base out and then the growth takes off. You may have some things that are different to where you get your frags from (eg lighting). Like the Cherry Bomb - in QT it looked terrible and I think even if you take 5.5months I think that is really good growth. Man if I squint I can see growth on my acros after several months but it's nothing - I would kill just to see one starting to really grow.
