With a high tide and a bit of swell, the current at the entry/exit point at Uluwatu can flow really fast, just as the surfers at the start of this video experienced.
It can take a lot of work to get back to the beach, so make sure you have enough fuel in the tank at the end of your session to get past this final hurdle.

They are paddling to the left to try to make it out near the peak. HUGE MISTAKE, with that current. Paddle straight out or slightly to the right with the current. I understand they don’t want to get swept around the rock to race tracks, but they are expending all their energy before even getting close to the impact zone.

What happens if you get sucked out here? Back into the impact zone?

Your message seems to reference a situation that could occur in surfing or in an oceanic environment where waves are powerful. The "impact zone" in surfing is the area where waves are breaking most forcefully. It's the spot where the waves have reached their peak and are collapsing onto themselves, creating a turbulent and potentially dangerous area for surfers. If someone gets "sucked out" into the impact zone, it means they are being pulled out by the ocean currents or waves into this area where the breaking waves can impact them. Here are some of the things that might happen: 1. **Struggle to Maintain Position**: Surfers or swimmers might struggle to stay in place or make progress back to the beach or the lineup (the area where surfers wait for waves) because the breaking waves can push them back towards the shore or pull them under. 2. **Increased Risk of Wipeouts**: For surfers, being in the impact zone increases the likelihood of wipeouts, as this is where waves are at their most powerful. 3. **Exhaustion**: Constantly fighting the power of the waves can be exhausting. Fatigue can set in quickly, making it harder to stay afloat or swim. 4. **Potential for Injury**: The impact zone can be dangerous because of the powerful waves and the turbulence they create. Surfers and swimmers can be thrown against the seabed, against their own boards, or collide with other people. 5. **Risk of Drowning**: In extreme cases, if an individual is not a strong swimmer, is unable to remain calm, or is injured and unable to swim effectively, there is a risk of drowning. 6. **Need for Rescue**: In some cases, lifeguards or other surfers may need to assist someone who is unable to get out of the impact zone on their own. To stay safe, surfers and swimmers are generally advised to: - Learn about the ocean conditions before going in the water. - Be aware of their own limits and not take unnecessary risks. - Always surf or swim with a buddy. - Use the appropriate gear, like a leash for your surfboard, which helps you not lose your board. - Practice good water safety, which includes knowing how to identify and escape riptides and other hazardous water conditions. If one does find themselves in the impact zone, the recommended approach is to remain as calm as possible, conserve energy, and use the timing of the waves to make gradual progress back to a safer area

When you get in the current you should just Ride it to the side of it before using all of your energy to resist it, once you are out of the current area then you have to get out of the water

You should never paddle direct to the cave if you don't want to burn your shoulders. Just put your place in the main peak and once you get push by the white water angle your board before the cave. Then the current does the rest.. It will taxi you to the cave easily.
