Judo is gigantic in Europe. Way more judo clubs out here than BJJ clubs.

Judo has always been fun, however their competition rules have limited the art in my opinion. Watching it has always been beautiful and awesome though. I just wish the IJF wouldn't have hurt the art by trying to keep wrestlers out

Globally, Judo is cool. In the United States, not so much. World-class Judokas in France, Japan, South Korea, Georgia etc are household names, actual celebrities. This is not the case in the United States. Ronda Rousey didn't really become popular until she hit the MMA scene for example. The point they are making is valid - for Judo to become popular again in the US, the public needs to be able to see the athletes more often than once every four years at the Olympics.

IJF made Judo boring and sportified, but I would like to see more Judo in BJJ and in MMA everyone who is doing it does well but sadly singles and doubles are MO

Judo is intrinsically cool The fact that it is viewed that way in every corner of the world but the USA is proof of that. And the inclusion of it in the Olympics has heightened its coolness everywhere but here.. when it turns to the marketing of that coolness in the US that's where BJJ has ate our lunch. They have done so without any national sporting organization, but just with massive publicity

Maybe in U.S. BJJ is more popular than Judo but in Europe Judo is much more popular than BJJ. Kids are doing judo in school (it’s the most popular martial art for kids), Judo is also on EVERY university. You can find really good Judo clubs in every City, and we have got much more really good competitors and coaches in Judo than in BJJ. So in Europe Judo is surely cool all the time 😉

The best way to water down any martial art and make it less effective is to make it an Olympic sport. I really hope they do not put BJJ in the Olympics.

Wrestlers came into judo just doing single and double legs and ruined the sport, so they had to modify the rules to stop people from just doing single and double legs all the damn time

@@kooldude121858 the problem was not people doing singles and doubles. the problem is they did that to just score the minimum possible, and then defend until the clock ran out. rules have been changed to bring back the Ippon judo. to put it in another perspective, it was like pro tag players went into boxing, tried a few bodyshots to score something and then run around the ring to negate the boxer's efforts of scoring or dealing damage.
