I still remember, there was a program named "spirit of unity concert" on doordarshan. As a kid, I didn't like the program but I used to wait for ending credentials as there was a piece of music I used to love while credentials scrolling and there I found "Music : A R Rahman". 🏵️

It’s a great song and I hope it gets covered in this interview which is already so in depth. I hope the interviewer had squeezed all this info for us to watch in the coming episodes. We finally got a breath of fresh air through Rajeev’s interview and this should alone be at least 5 episodes. Just as we can’t get enough of ARR music, so is this man whom I feel we can’t get enough of whatever he’s had to say here. Kudos! Very much true. This is that one interview we have been all waiting for. My fav album in theircombination is Kandukondein Kandukonde though Minsara Kannavu had won the national award. His other outings too are great with him and I hope it gets covered in this interview which is already so in depth. I hope the interviewer had squeezed all this info for us to watch in the coming episodes. This great interview has to have no less than four to five episodes for the kind of insights that this man is dishing us non stop. I simply had to rewind, pause and reiterate every word he said throughout the interview. Seriously, they were such precious gems for us die-hard Rahman fans. I could somewhat relate to the ad agency’s extreme filtering of content compared to how it works within the movie industry. As a copywriter myself, I can vouch for what Rajeevji said in this direction. Though ads look like marketing gimmicks, there’s hell lot of work behind them and even if they are not as big or grand as films, still they are reviewed by eagle eyes as the creative aspect is of paramount importance here. Very Eagerly waiting for the coming episodes to get a refined taste of his analysis of their mutual work for silver screen in his silver tongued eloquence. O2 India should not leave this man so soon. I hope you guys get all the information that we as fans cherish forever and keep in loop again and again. And this guy was as good or even more a die hard Arr fan and can patiently explain for eternity about Rahman sounds. Hope, the interviewer took full advantage of this!

In the hindsight I feel that it is a blessing in disguise that ARR's composition for Gwalior suiting was rejected. Had it come earlier, then "Roja" wouldn't have been a novel experience. Especially the crystal breaking music in the start of "Pudhu Vellai Mazhai"... People would have dismissed ARR as repetetive jingle composer then itself. That danger was about to happen when "thilangu thaa thaa" sound from "Thee Thee" song from "Thiruda Thiruda" was used in "Tantex" innerwear advt, Asian paint's "Mann paarkka pongiyathu" sounded a lot like "Kizhakku Seemaiyile" songs...

Ofcrs, what you said is true to the extent that the novelty might go in for a miss but that’s just a bit. Above all, he took the elements from those jingles but did it on a massive scale in both of those songs. So, I don’t think he would be branded as repetitive even if the ad jingle was approved. Plus, most of the India hadn’t heard of his jingles as much than they heard of Roja. Either way, it’s still a saving grace. But if he doesn’t like to repeat himself in movies why would he do it at that time when he was so young. It’s just because those ideas were so good and he knows when placed rightly in film songs they go a long way and reach to a larger audience than thinking otherwise. I appreciate what he’s done for Roja even if it meant a bit of using those jingles elements but nowhere he’s close to breaking the novel and freaking fresh feel we got to hear in Roja.

I know when the new episodes drop but I save them for my weekends so I can enjoy them thorougly at my leisure and not be distracted by work or anyone. The discography of the Mozart of Madras is a gift that keeps on giving. There is so much to relish and rediscover every time one listens to his music. I am so happy that your channel has taken up this magnificent yet mammoth task of meticulously compiling the work of probably the best musician to have ever walked this earth and reveal to us the various unseen sides of his creative process and journey. My only grievance is that your episodes are just 20mins long and I have to wait for a week for the next installment! Nice content packed in this 20 min video, bit nostalgic too. I remember the days of doordarshan, ads and jingles were sometimes more enjoyable than the programs they actually sponsored. Mostly they unconsciously got embedded in our minds during the breaks between overs/wicket-fall/drinks break of cricket matches. When you listen to them after 15-20years, its so magical that you start sensing the feelings which took you literally to that point in time. Man, time travel is real! Dilip aka AR R now was a very talented key board player. He was active in the jingle world for a while before he got a break in films. Most "composers" consider him a good music "compiler" as he picks up tunes from various sources and puts its all together to sound good. And he has been very very very lucky. And he takes a long time to come up with each song. Again, right from Oscars to where he is today, he has been very lucky. In terms of depth of knowledge and creativity, I believe no one in Indian film industry can be compared to the music Maestro Mr. Illayaraja from Tamil Nadu state in India. He is probably one of the greatest musicians in the history of world cinema. Why Rajiv Menon avoided to comment on ARR's music composition on Kandukondein kandukondein , directed by Rajiv Menon himself ? It was a wonderful movie with Aishwarya Rai, Tabu ,Ajith and Mamuti ,The songs were also wonderfully composed and still being heard .
