At 5:24 Evan describes Fleetwood Mac's pop music as perfect, stating, "it didn't reinvent the wheel - it dipped the wheel in liquid gold. These are concise gorgeous songs dressed up with multicoloured sounds..." You could say I was just appreciating the metaphor a lot.

When I was 18 I moved to Naples Italy. I got a job as a bartender even though I had no experience and nobody there spoke English. I had *ONE* audible link to home, and that was the Rumors album on cassette. The place I was working had a tape player and they didn't mind if I played my tape. By the end of the summer my Co workers and regular customers knew how to sing in English 😀 and I made some great friends. Life was simpler then!!

@@McPhisto Hard to blame him when the woman he loved was fucking someone else and he had to work with both of them on an almost daily basis. I can't imagine the mental strain that they all went through to bring us this masterpiece. Also worth pointing out that without Buckingham and his persistence this album would never have been as good as it was, he truly is a mastermind and what he did with dreams with 3 chords was something special. (Stevie's song I know, but he truly brought the sound to it) Considering the song is about him as well, damn that must have took some fucking patience!

2-3 years ago when I revisited my love for Fleetwood Mac...had been busy raising children...i literally could not stop playing their music....at one point my husband said can you give it a rest for like a day.... (no)....i said to him you know I always loved their songs and their music but it's on a whole other level now...im listening to the absolute beauty of the sounds I hear each time I play it....then I said Lindsey Buckingham is a genious....my husband was like there's alot of good songs from that era....i said I know....but these songs are crafted to perfection....what a gift this band has been. And so glad Mick called Lindsey back in the day to join. If Mick never heard Buckingham/Nicks music that day we would have never experienced this amazing beautiful band.

I think it is cool that you have such a wide range of content on your channel and is something that I thrive to do myself. I have kinda backed myself into a corner with my own video essays right now with only tackling the movies and tv show industry but I think it would be fun to branch out into video games and possible some music. Just the music I know I can say something interesting about. I really liked your Kendrick video, it taught me a lot about him that I didn't know before. What made you decide you wanted to tackle such a huge range of ideas and genres?

Well, you're not wrong... ... but I think one of the main ideas implied in this video is that-for a band that "shines brightest in the studio," i.e. one that technically and creatively excels at the production side of recorded music-the mixing itself is not only a serious artistic endeavour, but (more importantly) also truly a part of the songwriting process. To your credit, though, I'll bet this is why he specifically chose the wording "Makes a Song" over the more familiar phrase "Writes a Song" in the video title!

Aza wowzers, you've never heard of Fleetwood Mac? .. I suggest you go back and and start in the early 70s and work your way forward checking out some of the biggest and most important bands of the eras. I'm guessing you are younger than the age of the album so I'm not blaming you in anyway but not hearing them before - but but if you would take some time to listening to Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan, Genesis, America, Boston, Foreigner, Bruce Hornsby and The Range, Bruce Springsteen, The Police, early U2, Peter Frampton, Toto, Patti Smith, Pat Benatar... That should be enough to be getting on with. Once you've checked those out come back and let me know and I'll provide you another list of important works from that 30-year period.

Absolutely elegantly done. Every facet of this video oozes knowledge and flair as well as a fierce respect for Fleetwood Mac and music. Your videos consistently shock me (passengers rearranged) in the best, most earth shattering way possible. You know exactly who you are, exactly what you're talking about and are more than willing to take us on an incredibly journey with you. I believe I speak for everyone here that on KZbin- you sir, dip the wheel in liquid gold.

Every once in a while, I see a Nerdwriter video that's very informative and very enjoyable to listen to, but I'm not sure what the thesis is or what point he's making outside of summarizing the work he's talking about. As a video essay goes, that makes it good and bad - good video, bad essay. I hope to avoid falling into that trap, and I hope to hear more from The Nerdwriter like his essay on David Fincher's subtle tracking shots, which was one example of a fantastic video and a fantastic essay of his.
@rq2757
@rq2757 6 жыл бұрын
I actually disagree with that one. I thought his Fincher video was one of the worst he's done. This one isn't particularly good either. He has a thesis, provides a point with some general background facts for those unfamiliar with the subject, and then spends 4 and a half minutes repeating his point. It's redundant. This video hardly scratched the surface of what makes a truly great album. Vox's Earworm is far better in that respect.
@jamesivan24
@jamesivan24 6 жыл бұрын
I thought the Fincher one had an insightful thesis and effective communication of his points, but it has been a little while since I've seen the Fincher one. Can you fill me in on what this one's thesis is?
@rq2757
@rq2757 6 жыл бұрын
My problem with the his Fincher one is that all he said was "Fincher guides the viewer's eyes" and spends 6 minutes repeating that. His thesis here is that Rumors is a masterpiece that stands the test of time, but only talks about Dreams. He explains the elements of the song and how it relates to the whole, but fails to illustrate what makes it great outside the fact that it already is great. Barebones lyrical analysis which is basically just talking about inspiration for the song. Surface level analysis of the instrumentation aside from the 8 bar loop of the drums. He states the obvious on the lineup. Not really groundbreaking analysis to tell me Lindsey Buckingham played a different lick for the bridge compared to the verse. TL;DR: A lot of info but fails to connect it all for a strong overall point.

They ripped off black artists, beat their wives and everyone who likes them is a racist and misogynist without exception.
@mark-jensbarton8363
@mark-jensbarton8363 6 жыл бұрын
Brie Russell Sure, The Beatles ripped off black artists, but those black artists had pretty much been forgotten and without The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, etc they would have remained completely unknown. Did you know that in 1965, after the Stones mentioned Leadbelly, Bo Diddley, and Robert Johnson as influences those black artists's album sales went through the roof? Also, your statements about them beating their wives pertain mostly to John Lennon, and yeah he was an ass, but that's just what he, and the other band members are. Human. Ghandi was an abhorrent racist when he was a lawyer, Woody Allen is a misogynist pedophile, and many other highly recognized humans committed vast atrocities (Edmund Spenser, who expanded the English language with his poetry, tried to wipe out the Irish race). You, my friend, need to separate the artist from the art and stop being a pointless contrarian because all it does is highlight how unintelligent and gormless you are.
