Really inspiring. I garden on the smallest level and each item I "harvest" from a flower bouquet to a bowl of raspberries is the biggest sense of accomplishment. No material item I can purchase gives that feeling!

Gardening is the most wonderful hobby I’ve ever started. It’s great for the kind and the body.

The first time gardening changed my life was in 1981 (!): I just got out of college and wasn't happy with the career path I had chosen. On a particularly depressed day, I stopped at a nursery on my way home on a whim and bought some boxes for my balcony, a bag of soil and some flower starts. I went home to install the boxes and plant the flowers and recognized, to my amazement, that the moment my hands were in the soil, my mood changed radically for the better. This insight prompted me to change course and start an apprenticeship at a nursery. Fast-forward 40 years to 2020....: I retired from managing the UC Master Gardener Program in my County and can now devote more time to my own beloved garden and orchard. Not only am I fairly self sufficient in terms of growing my own fruit and veggies, I have found that gardening connects people from all walks of life, all ages and across the political spectrum. I still volunteer teaching gardening classes at community gardens and love to see young people "digging" gardening. I'm glad you two "caught the bug" and wish you a lifetime of joyful, satisfying and enlightening moments in the garden!
