Gasoline Additives

Gasoline Additives

13 жыл бұрын

Passenger vehicles continuously become more sophisticated to meet changing emissions regulations, improve fuel economy, and meet consumer performance demands. Engines become more complicated with modern engine designs.
It's no surprise that today's more sophisticated components require more sophisticated fuels. All gasoline is not the same. Not even close, actually. The quality of gasolines on the market today can vary dramatically. A high quality gasoline truly does deliver very real and measurable benefits, and it this through the science of fuel additives. Fuel additives are key to enabling the continued advancements in modern engine components.

TWISTED Good, but don't also be fooled into thinking "additives" refers only or primarily to the bottled products available in auto parts stores. Additives needed for modern cars are included by refiners and are already in the gas you buy at the pump.

I've been using amsoil performance improver gasoline additive for several years. One bottle every 4000 miles or so has kept my Honda Ridgeline running like new. It has 105,000 miles and the only maintenance done is regular lube and filter changes, cleaning the air filter and replacing rear rotors and brake pads. I don't worry about the specific brand of gasoline because the amsoil p.i. doses up the additives already in the gasoline. Most brands of gas have the bare minimum level of government required additives.

"Even in modern engines, carbon deposits can form through regular use. These deposits can create sludge, or build and directly prevent normal engine functions. Additives such as PEA (polyetheramine) can soften this hardened carbon which will release into the exhaust or oil under high temperatures and RPMs. Modern engines do not need additives if occasionally driven at moderate to high speeds and accelerations." its not build up on the intake valves you need to worry about they stay very clean. The common problem is clogged injectors where debris or dirt intterupts the mist. Although cheap gas etc can cause exhaust* valves to get dirty and that will occour in any fourstroke engine.

FWIW: I'm old and have always kept my cars for very long times (19 years for my current daily driver). I never put anything in the fuel system besides gasoline in the tank. Often I buy the cheapest gas of the appropriate octane. I've never experienced a fuel-related problem of any kind and that includes dirty injectors. The heads have never been off any of my engines. And I also usually use conventional motor oil and change it myself every 5K. None of the engines burned excessive oil (one used about 1/2 qt. between changes) and none wore out.

wholeNwon old engines run better new engines are very sensitive I do use synthetic oil helps a lot in 0 degree cold start but new gas and diesel engines do require more or else they are costly to repair a 7.3 Powerstroke can run diesel fuel in Mexico but 6.0 6.4 and 6.7 will have the entire fuel system and exhaust system damaged severely as the require ultra low sulfur diesel
@wholeNwon
@wholeNwon 7 жыл бұрын
The requirements of diesels aside, the machining tolerances of today's IC engines are not superior to those of the Lexus LS that I drive. The flow characteristics of some "synthetics" are probably minimally better than conventional oil of the same viscosity range at VERY low temps. Whether that translates into longer engine life is unknown but a reasonable bet. The overall superiority of "synthetics" in actual use in passenger car engines in terms of engine wear and longevity is very questionable, all other things being equal.

I use Marine outboard TCW3 rated oil in my cars. The ratio is 1 oz per 5 gallons. Check it out on Google.com. Many people do this with great results. It works like Lucas fuel conditioner but much cheaper. Remember it has to be TCW3 rated. Two Cycle Water cooled series 3. Don't forget to keep your fuel filter clean. So many neglect this very important part.

Shell gasoline is one of the best to use. I have a 2007 Gmc sierra with a 5.3 liter engine. It's very sensitive to truck stop gasolines or Kwik Trip. The proof is after filling my tank halfway and it triggers the check engine light days later. To cure I use a bottle of Lucas and fill my tank halfway with Shell gasoline. Remember to never fill your tank completely full unless you are going on long trips. P.s. my truck did not come with knock sensor.
@blackericdenice
@blackericdenice 8 жыл бұрын
Mike Guajardo Your knock sensor is under the intake and your cel came on because you either left the engine running or there was another problem. A bottle of Lucas didn't fix it and QT gas is pretty good gas. I fill up my tanks all the time in everything I drive. You sound like someone who believe in bull crap.

Zapcode Knock Don't buy higher octane fuel than what is recommended. All that high octane gas does is increase the flash point to prevent premature ignition in high compression engines as result of increased heat. If you're engine doesn't compress fuel that much, it won't misfire on lower octane fuel. All you're doing is throwing money away. Also, "Techron" and "Nitrogen Infused Gas" describe addition of the same additive. This additive is PEA. Either Shell or Chevron will suffice if you want your car to run forever.

I have a quick question. Is it safe to use additives often? I was told my my dealer to use this very time when I fill the gas tank. I was using one 100ml porsche gasoline additives ever sins. Resonantly One of my friends told me its not good for the engine to use regularly. Now I`m worried that if it damage the engine already? I was using this almost 8000km every time i refuel the vehicle. If anyone have a idea please let me know. Thanks.

Use a Top tier gasoline or a gas station that sells lots of gas because it will be fresh. you can look up and find which ones are Top Tier. I use Marine outboard TCW3 rated oil at 1 oz per 5 gallons of gas every time I get gas. Cleans and lubes the whole system. Google.com Sarge LS1 and read his testing many people do this with great results.
@julianwest4030
@julianwest4030 7 жыл бұрын
Plutoniumlover Most modern gas stations already offer these additives. I use either Chevron or Shell because of the presence of PEA. Just get some high quality gas and put some fuel system cleaner in your tank after every oil change.
@arthursmith643
@arthursmith643 7 жыл бұрын
Julian West Mobil is the best for regular gas and Shell for premium. Check out best gas for your car on KZbin . If you use a fuel cleaner every oil change check out Techron or Gumout multi system tune up. BG44 is supposed to be an excellent additive. Pat Goss of Motorweek recommends it. Google Sarge LS1 on using the Marine two cycle TCW3 rated oil in your gas every time you get gas. Ratio is 1oz oil per 5 gallons of gas. The oil lubes and cleans the whole system. Why wait till it gets dirty then use additive.

For over 100 years, man has been using the same combustion engine and modifying how to inject the fuel and how to spark , instead of releasing completely different technologies like humanity has done for other things. In an era where there was no mass communication, no world wide connection they had the same basic engine principle as we use today in a world where we have supposedly gone to the moon 50 years ago, and we use phones that are more powerful than the supercomputers in the 80's but yet we still rely on the same old basic technology from over 100 years for our automobiles. Hmm, and when one actually does their research, they realize that most of the fuel economy gains are not due to the engine upgrades, but rather the addition of more gears in transmissions, since today's cars have twice the number of gears as back then! So if we used the same old 4 gear tranmissions from the 90's, our electronically direct injected fuel engines with variable valve timing, variable intake, DOHC, all begin to look very very useless compared to how long it took to develop this technology AND THE SHIT GAIN it got us. It's all a fucking scam, to run oil as long as they can, and that's why hybrids are also the biggest fucking joke. Every now and then, someone comes out with a new technology and dies from a suicide with 2 bullet holes in their head.

I remember fuel pumps and filters were outside the fuel tank and easy to change. I can't believe engineers would screw something like this up by putting them in the tank.
