a PhD in Telecommunications may be more knowledge and material to go through, but not relevant real world knowledge like a CCIE in routing & switching. basicly there will always be more theory with college programs but you forget 90% of it anyway because its no longer relevant. isp's and cloud companies dont want to know theory they want you to design or fix a major issue. CCIE is definitely more valuable and cost a lot less

CCIE is very knowledgeable in networking, but lets be real here, CCIEs are experts not PhD in networking, there is a higher level than CCIE, an architect. Therefore you have, Entry, Associate, Professional, Expert, and Architect. The higher you go, the more you realize, how little you knew

CCIE and other certifications - for cisco is one of more ways for making money. TAC is working no good, the software has more and more bugs and archaic interface

Urgh...! There is no way CCIE is anywhere close to a PhD! At best CCIE is a glorified technician certificate! That is all! I am myself studying for CCIE but lets not insult a PhD by comparing a technician certificate with it.
