There's actually a joke in Florida (I"m not from Florida) that goes, "If you want to go more south, go north!" The idea is that southern Florida has Miami, which is more liberal and if you go further north, you get people who act more "southern". Anyway, I didn't originally think of the joke, so good one.

While we might not necessarily be as numerous as some of our European neighbors in terms of number of speakers, many of us among young people in their twenties can speak English fluently. Things are evolving. Nous sommes au 21ème siècle. When asking about the length of a mile, you should specify what kind of mile, ie. American miles, since there historically were many different measurement for miles. For instance, in some places a mile was roughly 10 km, while it was just about 1 km elsewhere. It really isn't an exact form of measurement and was often based on something rather arbitrary.

The number plates in Europe don't always have the blue bar. The UK back plates don't have them, Andorra, Croatia, and Russia also don't use the blue bars. You could also be in Eastern Asia and see blue bars on the plates.

The License plate with two blue bands at the sides can get you to know that you are in European Union, but it's not the same for the rest of Europe.

Not true really, countrys that are outside EU, are using blue band plates. Like Monenegro, Serbia, Ukraine, North Macedonia, Bosnia, Norway and so on. I guess the only countrys that does not use plate like that are Switzerland, Belarus, Liechtenstein and Andorra that I know of.

That's very possibly true. For instance, the same guy has some trouble with the word "surname". As you already know, "un surnom" is a nickname in french. I got confused too as I was actually looking for a nickname while I knew his surname. So Cyprus could have been the same issue.

There is a question which is slightly incorrect, because not every european car have the EU compatible license plate. (for example: in Hungary there are the EU license plate since we joined EU, but till today we can use the plates before the joining, which do not have blue in it) AND respect for the double guy at the beginning! :D
