@@Mediocre_Gaming1917Yeah this is me. I feel like i start doing a lot better in the mid to late game when the board starts to get simplified and I’ve figured out the flow of the game and what my current attack plan is. The opening is always a clusterf- for me because I can’t memorize an opening past like 2-3 moves, and with so many pieces on the board and everything all tangled up, it’s easy to miss something.

Crossing 1000 elo was the bane of my existence. I barely crossed it, lost about 10 games in a row, went back to around 950, very slowly got back to 1000 after about a month just for the whole thing to happen again. This repeated for 5 times. I am now 1350 blitz and 1400 rapid but i still remember the struggle and elo anxiety vividly.

Bro right?! It's like a pattern every 100 elo gain for me, like the website knows I crossed a boundary and is like, 'oh yeah time to punish this fool' so they send me back 125 elo over two days and then the next two days I get it all back by playing easier opponents. I'm rated 1400 rapid but I probably still play like a 1250

If you're 800-900 and wish to overcome the 1000 barrier, just learn an opening for black and for white with a few of the most common variations, and I promise that you'll get there easily. For me, just doing that took me all the way to almost 1300. Also, do a lot of puzzles and always analyze your games, especially when you lose.

For anyone who happens to read this, Levi's courses are well worth the money. I started playing chess at 42 never having played before. I watched some youtube videos and tried the fried liver, and london, but I couldn't even remember like move 2. After playing for about 2 months I was struggling to maintain 400 to 500 ELO. I purchased Levi's 1e4 and Caro course as a package. I studied a bit and would play remembering the first 3 to 4 moves, and then go rewatch the videos play, rewatch and keep trying to remember the moves under move 10 and keep adding on. Eventually I got the London Course, and realized I'm a better positional player then tactical, and d4 is just more solid and positional most the time. Anyway after about 6 months I was able to reach 1000 elo, and it's cause I took the time to buy and study openings. I have almost every one of Levi's courses, and some from other people, and Levi's courses are the best IMO, easy to digest, practical moves meaning you get what is in your course work a lot, and it just shot up my ELO, and understanding so much quicker then just playing on my own.

@@lucasyriart1988 Yea dude well worth it. I just crush advance carps those are my favorite, just devastate. I'm 1374 in rapid and I think I could easily get to 1400 probably 1500 I just play mostly 5 min games blitz. For me it's insane how much worse players are at 10 min then 5 minute. There is a major skill difference. Playing 800s in blitz 5min is like playing 1200 or 1300s in 10 min. Everytime I play a 10 min game I win easy at rank 1300. I'm not sure where there is such a big skill difference between the two but there is. 1200 something is my highest in blitz, currently at 1106. I swear the when I start playing bad in the 60s I go back to my courses and do some studying and I'm back playing in the mid 80s accuracy when my mindset is right. I'm addicted to studying the courses, they help so much.

Highkey there is a major difference between 1000 blitz and 1000 rapid, I feel like blitz players are a lot stronger somehow, I'm 200-300 points lower in blitz than in rapid, and in rapid I might be underrated atm. Not so much in blitz.

yeah, i had no trouble reaching 1000 in rapid. but i'm nowhere close to that in blitz. i feel like tutorial videos can help my rapid game by teaching me new concepts. but these new concepts make my blitz game worse because it is just one more thing to think about which makes it more likely for me to blunder rook queen or mate.

Hi Levy, at 15:17, I noticed a tactic you didn't play. Maybe you were trying to play down to a 1000 level, but I feel you should have mentioned it if you saw it. Qa5+ as Black is a very powerful move from my analysis. As a 900, I was able to spot this in the few seconds you were talking. Even though they could initially defend the forked bishop with Nc3, they end up pinning the knight to their king, allowing Black to play cxd4, attacking the pinned knight with no immediate defenders to the d4 square. This pawn will definitely take the knight on the next move. This is from my analysis, and I am not sure if there is a tricky response from White here for Qa5+.

I’ve been stuck at 1000 elo for over a year, and it’s making me not like chess anymore. No matter how much i watched even gothams content, and studied, I’ve gotten all sorts of books and read them thoroughly, I can’t get any better. maybe I’m just bad. i had dreams of being a gm one day, but the longer i play the more i realize that it wasn’t meant for me.

Studying and playing are important but also analysing your games whether it be wins or losses. Becoming a GM is very difficult it's equivalent to saying you want to be a world class athlete. It's not going to happen overnight or without dedicating time as well as having natural ability of course.

Stop focusing on trying to do fancy high level stuff and just play casually. Look at each move (both yours and your opponents) very thoroughly and see what it does, what it threatens, what other pieces are affected by it moving. Doing that will practically ensure you make no blunders. That will easily get you to 1100

Hey Levy, at 7:00, when the bishop puts you in check, is it better to move the pawn the way you did? I find myself playing Nd2 in those positions because if Bxd2 then Qxd2 and that develops my queen's diagonals, and if they don't take then I unpin with the pawn and free my knight later. Is this a smart way to play or is it just better to move the pawn?
@GuyWithASword-rn7ki

At 18:05 when the knight moved and stopped defending the e2 square, you can hop your knight to d4 attacking the queen. Very Very often players will move the queen to G3 to target the pawn in front of your castled king to tray and set up some mate in the future. They miss the fact that your knight can check on E2 winning the queen. I win a ton of games in the advanced caro with that check. It happens all the time.
