My perspective is heavily influenced by modded gameplay; in vanilla, engineer feels like a powerhouse because he just kills everything. In modded, you can't do that at all without intense setup on engi, nor any other class besides driller, so survivability ends up more important, which engi objectively lacks in compared to gunner, driller, and scout.

My personal pick for the T5 mod on the shard diffractor is the dazzler lens. It slows the bugs down which means if you’re getting approached by a huge column of bugs they all walk into the splash damage and are slowed, given the bugs can be on top of each other this means you can have nearly unlimited valve out of this mod. Overclocks I would suggest is the clean oc that gives more ammo and faster recharge.

I feel like the magma trail overclock is probably overall best as it's like a pocket sticky flame, then the over time increasing aoe one isn't bad either. And i think the one that makes you shoot everything at once gives decent ammo as well.(not the giga boost that stops moving)

Making an electic bridge with turret arc is actually pretty good, although you have to thin out the bridge so enemies don't walk beside the electricity, and you also have to place the turrets a little inside the bridge especially if the bridge is built like stairs. The turret arc will travel through the bridge as well, but you could always hit the high corners on a stair bridge to make it thinner, also something I noticed that if you make the bridge absurdly thin exploders wont be able to collapse it and bugs will struggle to pathfind to you And obviously stuff like mactera and spitters will still get you, and idk if building a hut for yourself is that good of an idea, sure if there's an easy blueprint to follow

@@pvewaste yeah, only good for some mission types that have the objectives fairly compact, like on site refinery and the aquark thing, and if you wanna cheese enemies hard it's a lot more efficient to just clip yourself in a wall and it basically makes a 1 way wall you can shoot out of, similar funny thing with turrets that if you put then right beside a wall they'll shoot through to enemies possibly in other caves.

Some may prefer VIR because it's more viable. This is true. Some may feel that this overclock is a bit clunky to use. This is also true. However, I prefer PlasCat because dazzler module works well with it, I get a boom with 3/4 the damage of a fat boy nade at close to the same damage radius (assuming no +aoe mod on fb), less of the risk, at least 3 times the ammo overall, and a lot more flexibility and less team damage (assuming I don't constantly blow up my plats). I also don't find the setup to be a major issue, although I only play vanilla difficulties so I imagine it's different for you. Either way, seeing a group spawn in a big ope cave, tossing a plat at them, and comboing it with the laser to literally vaporize, not burn, vaporize the entire spawn group is beyond satisfying.

I like the gimmick very much, i think this was the first thing ive seen with more combo depth in DRG when i started, but i find it a bit weird to waste the platforms, then shoot them..which destroys them. Personally i left gunner at last, since i didnt like his style, but in recent time, with the help of some nice overclock rng..Engie is the one who is actually left behind by me. One thing i will always strive for tho is the Mad Engineer Style. Post more commentary or tier stuff bro, Karl would approve of this.

The ammo efficiency is quite simalar for volitile impact reactor and Plastcrete catylist. Though VIR requires very little setup, PC is a little better spesifically against oppressors. But generally your primary is going to fair better against those anyway.

i personally cant live without this overclock. its like you have a PGL that actually deals damage, has a lot of ammo and can be used for single target damage. not to mention how absurdly satisfying it is to desintegrate like 10 enemies at the same time. VIR is probably a better overclock, but this is just too much fun to pass up on

I don't think repellent and plastcrete go that well together. I play it opposite and don't use that weapon perk. Wherever the bugs come from, I want them to walk on the platforms to utilize the bonus as much as possible. Dropping a plat in a chokepoint at the right spot, combined with turret whip, you can use the SD situationally to clear very large groups quite quickly, and it still has the ability to zap single targets whenever necessary (not to mention the ability to create a large explosion, situationally of course). You can also create bridges sometimes and force the bugs on it, making it very easy to zap ambushes.

I prefer automated beam controller with full aoe and dazzler. The increased fire rate and slowdown allows for stupid easy big crowd clearing and it does faster with the fast rof and if the first mag doesn't get the job done, i can use in about 1.5 secs and finish the rest if need. Or pick bio mass convert to get more out of a single charge.

@@user-ox4ii2bw6x the coilgun, with fear, is already an exceptionally potent self defense tool. Having a 5m tube of 250% fear on demand is very strong. Its biggest problem is that at base, it doesn't have very much stopping power, even against grunts, unless you hit them directly with the shot. Hellfire changes that, giving you a huge AOE infinite range ignition source that simultaneously applies fear and sometimes electricity, giving absurd levels of self defense and offense, due to the sheer amount of heat it applies coupled with heat spread.

Do you know the stats on the other effect of PlasCatalyst? The purported intensification of the beam during/after making contact with a platform? Mostly wondering about its duration, if it’s viable to just sweep over a platform and then over a large target for extra damage.

There's no duration - you get doubled AOE and damage when you're hitting a platform, and nothing else.

it's mostly an intuition thing, but generally you judge when grunt density is thinning out enough that you can survive pushing and you're relatively confident you've killed all the mactera/acids/whatever

I think VIR is much better generally, yeah. It handles veteran grunts and airborne enemies worse, but is much more instant, doesn't require you to aim in one place, and is generally less finnicky to use. That being said, purely in the field of high-setup one-way holds, plastcrete is probably better? Maybe?
