Want to know what my favorite stat from that 03-04 season was? With AK47 on the court, the Jazz outscored opponents by 1.5 points per 100 possessions, which is decent, but nothing special. With him on the bench though, the Jazz got outscored by ELEVEN per 100! That's insane, for reference, the worst team that year, Orlando, was outscored by their opponents by their opponents at 6.8 per 100. Without AK47, the Jazz were literally not just the worst team in the NBA, they were one of the worst teams OF ALL TIME! Despite this, he led his team to a winning record and one game away from the playoffs in the strongest WC we had ever seen. I can't say he was better than KG, who had the greatest season of his career that year, but to me that was otherwise an MVP level performance, not just All-Star. It's unfortunate he was never able to follow up on that greatness, his skillset would be more appreciated in today's game.
@bryant4754 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly! If it wasn't for him they would've been the worst team in the league that year, as everyone predicted. They still ended up 42-40! Most people don't know those advanced stats, which is where he really shined in addition to the regular stats!
@CalebShimomura2 жыл бұрын
While I agree that this is a somewhat useful stat to give, I think it's overused. what SHOULD be compared is the performance of ALL teams without their best players. It's a star-based league. of COURSE a team without their best player is going to be way worse than another team WITH their best player.
@thouzer47.582 жыл бұрын

My favorite player growing up, I even wear his jersey when I play and have a similar play style to him! They call me AK on the court haha. He had an incredible all around game, incredible at blocks and steals, great rebounder and passer, and a decent shooter. He hustled and had a great feel for the game. Unfortunately his role after 2006 change really affected him, as well as injuries. I don't think it was a lack of motivation though, he did what he could in the system that Coach Sloan (RIP) had for him. Utah was doing well as a team, so he took the diminished role. If anything, it showed his willingness to sacrifice his role if it meant being on a winning team. I do think that he would have easily posted numbers similar to his 03-06 years, and maybe even 20+ ppg if he would've went to a fast paced running team. Either way, he had a great career, and I'm glad people are still talking about him now. Thanks for this video!

Worth mentioning is how Kirilienko is in a rare group of players who achieved a "5 by five" performance, that is to have at least 5 in every stat category in a game. As far as I know, there are 13 players in the entire NBA history who have achieved this. (although admittedly we have no records before the '73/'74 season, since that is when steals and block started to be counted) Kirilenko accomplished this 3 times, only being below Hakeem Olajuwon in the number of these games. Also, he is one of the players who were the closest to achieving a quintuple double, having 14pts, 9asts, 8 rbs, 7 blks and 6 stls in one game.Certainly an insane performance.

Damn. To think he was that good while investing all that time into WoW. He spends an extra couple hours a day practicing his 3pt shot among other things, he could have been a superstar.

How good was Tim Hardaway Sr. He gets overshadowed by other guards of his era. He is still not in the hall of fame

underrated in my opinion

He had better stats than Magic Johnson had in his first three years in the league. He will not be put into the Hall of Fame all because of his comments on gay people nearly 15 years ago
