J Crossover is one of my favorite players ever. His ball handling ability was off the charts. The way he would make his defenders look silly with his behind the back moves and handles was amazing to watch. He was more than a player who could just get numbers. He knew his role on every team he played for and he played that role to a T. He scored 50+ points for 4 different franchises. That’s an incredible accomplishment. By the time he got to the clippers he had established himself as a premier scorer off the bench.

I remember him being a super streaky shooter who would explode every so often. He also led the league in 4-point plays a lot, or was at the top of the list often. I loved how his jumpshot looked so much that I gave it to my create-a-player in NBA2K. That Knicks team with Isiah Thomas as coach/GM/whatever he was, then Larry Brown, then a bunch of others, that was a black hole of talent and Crawford got mixed in with Starbury, Larry Hughes and about 7 other SG/PG/SF combo guards. NY still kinda is a black hole of talent.

I watched every single game pf the lob city clippers and Jamal had a huge impact, when the game was in the balance in the 3rd quarter Jamal came out and hit 2-3 threes and finished them off, they would be waiving white flags after that. Jamal was huge for them. Unfortunately the playoffs never worked out for one reason or another but for a few years they were the best regular season team out there.

Jamal Crawford sure is fun to watch. I grew up in the Seattle area and remember when his HS team played the state championship in 1998 and beat Olympia HS. Some interesting facts about this game/team/Jamal: 1) The MVP of the tournament was not Jamal but his rotund teammate David King who was the starting center. 2) The world-famous body builder Phil Heath was a member of that team and in fact started for them. He earned a basketball scholarship to the University of Denver. 3) Jamal was granted a 5th year eligibility because he was not academically prepared to take on college level course. 4) Many players of Rainier Beach HS wore the Adidas KB8 (now known as the Crazy 8) which was Kobe's first signature shoes. Their colorway was white with royal blue.

Another 6man archetype that Crawford inspired is Bobby Portis. A spark plug who, instead of scoring at will, can cut, catch-and-shoot, post-up, and hustle. He's different from J in every way, but the role he plays for the Bucks is the same. He's someone with a unique set of skills being put into situations where he can best exploit them, and somebody who isn't exactly made to produce impressive numbers every game.

Jamal Crawford, Corey McGette, CJ McCollum, Larry Hughes, & Jabari Parker all averaged 20+ ppg in a season but never made an all star team. Derozan has multiple all stars but it’s all the same story. There are guys who may average 20 & even shoot 50% but their points don’t impact winning to the degree of a Steph Curry (who in any given season may average less than those guys).
