What is the percentage of wins where he was able to finish a race? I read some time ago that he lost races he dominated because of mechanical failure. It was almost like if the car held together, he would win. Greatest driver I ever saw race. Saw him do things in a car that I've never seen anyone else do. I remember one race where he brought the car in on 3 wheels when the suspension collapsed. He used the throttle and limited steering to bring the car around the track and back into the pits. Never saw anyone else do that!

I certainly think that if Fangio says Jim Clark is the greatest ever, that alone should be enough, because he lived through and witnessed the careers of the greats including the entirety of Senna's and the beginning of Schumacher's (Fangio died in 1995). Clark's smooth style is something I've tried to emulate in my own road driving. There's far more satisfaction I've found in taking a corner smoothly at the speed limit with limited effort and hardly feeling the turn than there is speeding. Especially when you get it just right.

The man was so talented it was almost comical. 3 titles lost to mechanical failure (62,64,67) and 68 would have easily been his had fate not intervened. Versatile, fast, sympathetic- he was the most magical racing driver. How good was he? Better than anyone you care to mention.

Fangio said along with Stewart, he was the best. Smooth Jimmy......made Lotus great early on.....Chapman loved him......watched him in the 60s start his career....love the guy....gentleman farmer.... great guy......fast as senna Schumacher and the guy driving for Benz (7 or 8 championships and cant recall his name..lmooo)!!!

One more which I forgot to include - Jim was and still is, the only man to have won the Indy 500 and the F 1 World championship in the same year!

Clark has been living in the cemetery for over 55 years and still has records in F1 today unbroken. He has never been equalled . certainly the best ever.

JIM CLARK - By far the greatest driver ever - no doubt. He is and was "The Best of the Best" (Fangio, Senna, Prost, Stewart and countless others about Clark). No other driver in history until today was so superior as Clark - No other driver as so much "Grand Slam" - Pole/Win/Fastest Lap/Leading every lap of the race - like him. And all that from just 72 starts... ! This man is the Olymp of driving - the Michelangelo of racing - a dynamic art at the highest level. So smooth, so precise, so fast....simply out of this world. One, who won in Spa by 5 minutes (!) in monsoon rain with only one hand at the wheel (!) because of gearbox trouble...One, who takes back a complete lap (!) in Monza and back into the lead... One, who took pole on the original 22,8 km Nürburgring track by 9 (!) seconds and more....One who won Indy by 2 whole (!) laps... In 1965 he had the most succesful year of a driver in the history of the sport: He won the F1 World Championship, the Tasman Series with F1 cars, the Indy 500, the British and French F2 Championship, the British Touring car Championship, totally over 50 (!) victories in one season !!!! For eternity and by lightyears unmatched in the sport. That`s just some examples of his mesmeric unique genius...

He nearly won the 1962 F1 championship but for a bolt costing a few pence costing him the last race of the season [which championship was won by G Hill] and again the 1964 F1 championship cos of some team "tactics" by Ferrari, allowing John Surtees to win in the last few laps of the last race that year. In 1965 he won 6 out of the first 7 GP's , 5 on the trot, (missing Monaco to win the Indy 500 - the first non American to do so for decades) and had the championship sewn up by the beginning of August. Don't forget his ability in rallying - see the 1966 RAC Rally which he nearly won. Then there's his 1964 British Touring Car Championship, never mind the Tasman Series Championships, USAC and Nascar exploits. I saw him in 1966 in a Lotus Climax 2 litre competing against the 3 litre engined cars - see Zandvoort 1966 [Dutch GP] and he was the only driver ever to win a GP using the infamous H16 BRM engine of 1966 [ask Sir Jackie Stewart whether it was any good !]. These facts put him as the GOAT; just as Lewis Hamilton is a GOAT too from different criteria. He was also a really clean competitor [again, ask Sir Jackie), unlike at least three I could name. Thank you for a great video bringing this modest brilliant man, forgotten to most of the modern motor racing world, to the attention of fans.

Jim Clark is the most successful F1 driver in history. This is based on the number of wins per races entered, where he won 1 out of every 3 races. An amazing talent.

Lord Colin had much to do with it. How many non-lotus wins did Jimmy have? They kept winning without him. Clark is among the greats. It is impossible to determine best ever driver. Chances are we never knew him.
