Bird played his whole career for the Celtics. His rookie year he got rookie of the year and turned the team from a 21 win team to a 64 win team. He has 3 rings and 3 consecutive league MVPs. When he retired they had the ceremony on a night when there wasn't even a game and still sold out the Garden.

He hurt his back doing his mother's driveway not chopping wood. Both MJ and Lebron have Bird in their top 3. Not only was Bird the third player (and the only forward) to make MVP 3 times in a row but In a 9-year run from 1980 to 1989, Larry Bird got 67% of all MVP votes that were cast. All other players combined only received 33% of the votes. in an era that included the players who eventually made up the dream team and a large list of HOF players.

He broke it working on the driveway. He reinjured it right after the double Achilles surgery while chopping wood. He had a second surgery. He still came back and made the all star team.

Larry Bird finished top 3 in MVP votes every year from 1981 to 1988...He finished 2nd,2nd,2nd,1st,1st,1st,3rd ,2nd, missed 76 games due to injury, t-10th, t-9th, 14th, retirement. This streak began during only his second season in the league! Absolutely insane stretch from Larry Legend.

If you haven't seen it watch Larry Bird ultimate mix tape. Also look at his trash talking video.
@alanela67616 ай бұрын
This narrator gets a few things mixed up. 1. The 1979 Mich St. Spartans were led by Sophomore Magic Johnson (he wasn't a senior). 2. This is kind of cherry picking, but saying that magic got the best of him in the 1987 finals isn't 100% accurate. The Lakers had a very complete team, and Kareem had quite a bit to do with it, too. 3. Larry did not hurt his back chopping wood. It was shoveling gravel, according to his doctor, building his mom's driveway.
@cindyknudson2715Ай бұрын
Yup, in the summer of 1985. The Spartans also had Kelser on that team. And Kareem was the league MVP when they won the championship in Magic's (and Larry's) rookie year. (1980 MVP vote was Kareem, Dr. J, G. Gervin, *Larry Bird*) Bird was named Rookie of the Year

To see just a few of Larry's better moves, watch Larry Bird Ultimate Mix...it's fast paced, has comments by other players...and you will be astonished at how versatile Larry was on the court. The video even shows footage of Larry fracturing his cheek when he fell and his face/head hit the floor. He also had a concussion from that fall, and he came back and finished out the game, hitting 4 more baskets. In another.

Great reaction and here is a link to one I think you may enjoy with some trash talking etc. Larry was the most dominate player of the 80's he won three consecutive league MVP's only the third to do it and no one since. Founder of the 50-40-90 club, one of the most clutch shooters ever, and one of the greatest passers ever. He played with so many injuries he is the toughest player ever to do it and the biggest trash talker ever.
