Wilt could average 45 today with the relative ease
@rodangrahf4 жыл бұрын
@IslangDong317 simple, Wilt is stronger than everybody else and back then people could do outrageous things while defending, Wilt took some nasty blows in his time and he still averaged 50 points for a season. Today no Center can match his strength, speed and leaping. Defensively they wouldnt be able to even touch him with the flagrant fouls. 70-80 is an example he gave, clearly exaggerated, but with these tools at his favor he would easily average 30-40 points a season, possibly matching or surpassing his career high of 50. The game would work too much in his favor.
@MrInzombia4 жыл бұрын
IslangDong317 He said if he just waited at the post, he could rebound and dunk all day long. But he thought that was a cheap looking style and wanted to expand his game. So he shot the ball more rather than just bullying his way to the paint and getting a guaranteed bucket every time. He was that good.

The Warriors that year weren't too bad, they just weren't as good as the Celtics.. HOWEVER.. they DID take Boston to 7 games! The Warriors were basically young prime Wilt and an old Arizin who could still play well, with decent role players around them. Tom Gola, Tom Meschery, and Guy Rodgers were all decent. Rodgers was not a great scorer but a nice playmaker, and Gola sucked in the playoffs I'm not sure why. He might've gotten hurt though as he didn't play in every game. They got help from Meschery who played way better in the playoffs. Wilt and Arizin were excellent as always in playoff scoring. Still they couldn't beat Boston... but it was no cakewalk... Bill Russell had multiple HOF players in his team, including former MVP Bob Cousy. On the other hand, Wilt had almost no help in his prime with the Warriors. Imagine the Cavs after Warriors got Durant; no matter how good LeBron was, he couldn't outscore perhaps the three best shooters of all time. Wilt was in a similar situation, but with worse help. Wilt would have had more than his 4 mvps as well, if MVPs were given before playoffs. In fact, Bill Russell got the MVP the season Wilt averaged 50.4 ppg. If Finals MVP was a thing, Wilt would have had thr most MVPs of all time, and Bill Russell would have had like 11 finals MVPs but 0 regular season MVPs.

The Celtics record before drafting Bill Russell was 39-33, in comparison to Warrior's 32-40 record before Wilt. And the increase in offense argument isn't even valid as the offense improved not because he scored less, but because he changed teams. The teams he moved on to after the Warriors were simply better than the Warriors teams Wilt played for. And if you want to make the point for the sixers being better than the warriors were when Wilt's ppg in sixers was lower than it was for the warriors, he was the primary playmaker too, with a hall of fame coach unlike his warriors days

People say Wilt _only_ won two championships without considering two things. The first is that he won two championships with two totally different teams in two separate decades. That's quite a feat on its own, and he carried both of those teams. The second is context. He played 7 series against Bill Russell and a roster of future HOFers. Of those 7 series, 4 went to game seven. Those 4 games were decided by a grand total of _NINE_ points. And those losses were not Wilt's fault. One game saw his team not pass to him for the entire second half. He touched the ball twice in that second half. In another game, he went out with an injury and the coach wouldn't put him back in. The coach was fired the next season for not putting in their best player at the end of game seven of the finals. In another, Wilt scored his team's final five points, including the shot to tie. Sam Jones threw up a deep shot and won. And the other game seven loss was Havlichek's famous steal, throw by a teammate to another teammate; Wilt was not given the ball. You cannot continue to blame him for these losses. If anything, he's the reason those games were so close to begin with.Wilt Chamberlain is the greatest basketball player of all time, and the argument against that is he only won two championships? That's absurd. Some guys never won any.
@soshimaou67782 жыл бұрын
But anybody who has not won any is even up for a debate for GOAT? Nobody is denying his athleticism or his physical dominance. He just is not GOAT because of his mentality towards winning- he only won two championships for that. I feel like if he really wanted to, with that atheleticism, his character and a different mentality- getting everyone involved in winning, building up a system for the team to win, working back-to-back with the scouters to get a team that can beat Bill Russell, then he could have been GOAT.

The real reason why Wilt Chamberlain wasn't the league's dominant scorer in the 2nd half of his career was mainly due to the influence of coach Alex Hannum. In his first 7 seasons in the league, Wilt won 7 scoring titles, but he had yet to win an NBA title. Alex Hannum was then hired as the 76ers new coach and due to his team's stacked lineup, he asked Chamberlain to be more of an all-around player. Wilt took Hannum's suggestion and ran with it as he produced maybe the most complete season by a center in NBA history. The 1966-1967 Sixers bolted out of the gate with a 46-4 record, ended the season with a then NBA record 68-13, and Chamberlain was named the league MVP with an incredible stat line of 24.1 points, 24.2 rebounds, and 7.8 assists a game. Wilt was also the most dominant defensive player in the league and he proceeded to have the greatest playoff run in NBA history. In 15 playoff games, Chamberlain averaged 21.7 points, 29.1 rebounds, 9.0 assists, and 9.2 blocked shots. Wilt won his first NBA title and proved beyond ALL doubt that he was THE most dominant player in NBA history.

How good was Wilt Chamberlain? He was the greatest scorer in NBA history as evidenced by his winning 7 scoring titles in his first 7 seasons in the league. In those 7 seasons, he averaged an incredible 39.6 points a game. Wilt was also the greatest rebounder in NBA history as evidenced by his winning a record 11 rebounding titles. In terms of 7 foot centers, Chamberlain is the greatest shot blocker and passer in NBA history. In terms of team accomplishments, Wilt was the driving force behind 2 of the 5 greatest teams in NBA history. Wilt's 1966-1967 76ers squad were 46-4 after 50 games and won a then record 68 games. Wilt then proceeded to have the greatest playoff run in NBA history. In 15 playoff games, Chamberlain averaged 21.7 points, 29.1 rebounds, 9.0 assists, and 9.2 blocked shots. In the last 11 games of that stretch, Wilt dominated both Bill Russell and Nate Thurmond to help the 76ers win their 1st NBA title. Wilt's 1971-1972 Lakers squad won a sports record 33 consecutive games, won a then record 69 games, and the 35 year old Chamberlain was the MVP of the 72 Finals. It's important to note that Wilt also had the greatest playoff performance from a player on the losing team in NBA history. In the 1965 Eastern Finals, Chamberlain became the ONLY player to average a 30-30 in a post-season series. Wilt dominated Russell to the tune of 30.1 points and 31.4 rebounds a game, and he scored the last 6 points in a game 7 that was decided by Havlicek stealing an inbounds pass from Hal Greer. By any measure, Wilt Chamberlain is 1 of the 3 greatest players in NBA history.

abc ez as 123 he wouldn’t get many steals because he would rather just block the shots, he would’ve had over 15 blocks per game, probably 40 ppg, over 20 rebounds per game and he had great basketball IQ so he would average at least 10 assists per game if he tried to

The more I learn about Wilt, the more I realize that Wilt might really be the GOAT of the NBA. Dude probably could have every record in the books if he wanted it but chose to give the fans a show and give the other team a chance.
