He is completely right, I don't understand what is wanted here in the comments. Jenep Heynckes' Bayern in the years he mentioned was unstoppable, two consecutive Champions League finals and one they lost with Hans Drogba. and winning the World Cup in Brazil, whose squad is based mostly on Bayern players. Pep came with the tiki taka, yes Bayern still looked great but the sting of German football is gone, and that's what Schweinsteiger is talking about

@@anakinskywalkerii4350That’s about as dominant as an international team can get though - winning the euros, then the World Cup, and then the Euro’s again. The backbone of that winning team was ageing or retired by the time the World Cup in 2014 came around. It takes time for a new generation to come through - simply put, it would be both a tall order and unprecedented in international football to win the next 4 big tournaments, after having just won three in a row already. Football is too competitive, and runs in cycles because of this - no international team would likely dominate for 15 years, no matter how good they looked for 6 years or so.

I have to agree with Schweini, Pep’s style is great when everything falls nicely into place but unfortunately that’s not the case most of the times. Sure you can dominate the league and the domestic cup but it’s definitely a different story once you’re playing a high stakes competition like the UCL or the World Cup. Bayern were the dominant force in Bundesliga under Pep but they already were long before he came. Heynckes already won the treble before him, that’s why I personally prefer the functionality tactic that implemented by Ancelotti and Zidane rather than Pep’s authoritarian possession tactic.

I have stopped watching football or highlights altogether because of modern football and var. 5 yrs now. Its almost stupid to play football without top no 9. Why need false 9 when actual 9 can wins u games? Kinda boring wit just discipline without flair, prove is english football and brazilians such as romario, party nearly everyday but still give results. Players like berbatov whom occasionally smoke and not running much but matter when given the ball. I will say this again, barcelona is shit club that solely rely on brazilian foward to make it a big club and without pairing messi wit ronaldinho, that lil guy will never get the imagination to play beautifully. Just like how messi is given free role, previous generation players are way better performing as ballerz and keeping the beautiful game as beautiful, full wit unexpected creativity and intelligence in the game. Try teach ticky no trick taka at a small club with less budget and winning the league and show me its possible. Fergie buy unknown players and develope champions, not spending mega money and win championship. Stats only wins you games like baseball not contact sport, ask yaya toure why he didnt survive, that could be a definitive answer. Not a hater or mourinho fan, but hated football wit no striker and not differencing between good player and world class players. Even scholesy cannot tackles at the end of his career 😮, does not mean he does not know how to attack. Talents arent normally following order kinda players as nobody is perfect, but keeping all kinds of characters are much more challenging as well as rewarding. This is a bad take. Pep was in charge of Barca, Spain won Euros twice & WC with heavy Barca influence. He was in charge of Bayern, Germany win the WC with heavy Bayern influence. Pep came to England and England start performing in the international tournaments, but City players didn’t participate so heavily. However his style and influence clearly has rubbed off to the other clubs and coaches in England which has contributed to the progress. Bastian is talking out of his backside.

It is not only a bad take, it is either ridiculously dishonest or ridiculously ignorant. The facts in the video are objectively wrong. It's not that Germany won the World Cup 'and then Pep came to Munich', as Schwensteiger says. In reality, Pep came to Munich AND THEN Germany won the World Cup. With a core group of players from Bayern, coached by Pep, by the way. Just as Spain had won everything earlier with a core group of players from Barcelona, while Pep was in Barcelona. The only thing that anyone can ever blame Guardiola for is that he transforms football wherever he goes in such a manner that after he's gone, often times clubs and national squads won't be able to really replicate what he did, and thus their performance declines. And I'm guessing that's what Schwensteiger really means to say, but it's just preposterous that he completely forgets the part where the reason why Germany won in the first place is because Pep was there (if you want to be fair, maybe not necessarily because of that, but at least the sequence is that Pep arrived and Germany won, not that Germany won and then Pep arrived).

@@jvjjjvvv9157 you sycophants really need to relax. Did he revolutionise the style of modern football? Yes. But he also had access to an incredibly talented squad of players, arguably the most talented in those respective leagues, in both instances. I’ll hesitate to mention a blank chequebook also, for your benefit. The downfall of those national teams is at least partly due to core players of those teams ageing out or retiring by the time of the following World Cup. After all, if they’ve won one then they already had the winning formula. Why would Pep moving to another country impact that? It’s not just a case of Pep leaving and suddenly those national teams (that he has no control over by the way) turn to shit overnight.

The problem with Pep philosophy is that it makes everyone and their dog think everything has to be around possession, better xG, yada yada. There have been countless times that Pep lost in a big cup games against teams that counter that tactics. Ancelotti with Real Madrid beat him in UCL, Ten Hag with Man United beat him in FA Cup, and earlier on, Tuchel beat him in UCL Final. But for some reason, those wins are discounted by pro-Pep critics as “non-football”, “disastrous tactics” despite the fact that they all countered what Pep wanted to do.

You didn’t understand what Bastian is saying at all. He’s saying that while Pep’s style is great, it wasn’t imbibing some of the core German principles into it, hence they didn’t win the UCL and weren’t unstoppable under Pep. Whereas Pep has learned from that and now in English football while he started with possession based football, he has adapted and taken a leaf out of Sir Alex Ferguson’s book in playing a variety of tactics throughout the season depending on the opposition and also going with direct counter attacking football when needed (prime example being last year when City thrashed Arsenal and Haaland assisted KdB)
