Welcome back.
This week we make an 80 mile passage from Rum Cay to the Acklins. With basically no winds, it was a motorfest. But we got into Attwood Harbor without any issues.
We were invited to a party by the locals, which we gladly joined in on. And what a fun night it was!
After that, in an effort avoid stopping again before the DR, we go through the wildest quest in an effort to top up on fuel. After 60 miles round trip, 10 different vehicles, a lifelong local getting lost on the water, beers in trucks & beers at school, we finally make it back to the boat with the go juice. It was one helluva fun adventure!

Who would have ever thought that getting fuel would be a whole day adventure and a whole video. I guess we here in the US really don't realize how the rest of the world lives many times. Keep the good stuff coming.

Right?! To think that everyone on that island goes through basically the exact same thing when they need fuel. We Americans really are spoiled. Fortunately, it turned out to be a very exciting adventure. Those school kids were so fun to watch.

You did the maneuver, Attach yourself to the anchor chain, is to take a rope and make a bridle to the chain, the other way is to take the bridle from the ring, arganeo of the anchor itself. YOU DID IT, THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE

Ah, gotcha. Thank you so much! I’m not sure why veryobe doesn’t use a swell bridle when rocking like that. It makes it so much more comfortable.

It takes a day to get groceries, another for the laundry, same to get water and get fuel as well. A sailor must have plenty of free time because it takes a long time to get things done on a boat... Cheers, Richard

Instead of going through all this trouble I believe you can let seaweed decompose and at that point you can pump it out of the ocean floor and after a little refining you can use it :P Cool to sea Rafael and Mel!

Of course you did, cause you were in it. 🤣 SOOO happy that our paths crossed! Overwhelmingly, the Bahamians are such good and nice people. Those kids were amazing to stand back and watch. I miss you and Raf! Hope you’re doing well!

Thank you so very much, Dianne! It makes my heart so happy that you’re enjoying the videos. Honestly, in most of my adventures, it’s the local people that make it all worth while. I thoroughly enjoying delving into other cultures.

Ha, what a riot. Keeping a sense of humor is important there 😅 I know it can be rough on the out islands, but that getting fuel was sure extreme. Thanks for all the details.

Hey Miss Amy... very good with that maneuver whose name is Elbow or make an elbow brace to the anchor chain, the other is to make the elbow brace to the anchor ring... VERY GOOD.. Maneuvering.... ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Let see suction cups to do hull scrubbing, now a Swell Bridle to ease the motion of your boat. Somebody did their homework before casting off the mooring lines. How frustrating was it for you to find a boat, you might guess I've been striking out?
@AmysSoloSailingAdventures

Thank you. 😃 But as prepared as I thought I was, there’s several things I learned after the fact that I should’ve brought. Live and learn, I suppose. I had pretty strict criteria for purchasing my very first boat. $5k or less, one that needed a ton of work, so that I could learn, had to be within 3 hours of Tampa…etc. I looked at every single site, multiple times a day, before I found mine. It was pretty frustrating because, even though I was looking so often, I was never quick enough to be the first person to offer money. But it’ll work out for you. Keep looking, and before you know it, you’ll have it. It’ll find you.

I recommend getting some noise canceling Bluetooth headphones. It deadens the engine sounds and anything else that can drive you nuts. I got a pair for under $100 that are just electronic wonders on passage. You can tell you were no excited about the fuel run. How many Jerry cans do you keep aboard?
@AmysSoloSailingAdventures
@AmysSoloSailingAdventures 24 күн бұрын
Well, funny you ask about the fuel cans. I had a new, bigger tank made. And it’s going to be delivered tomorrow. It’s going from 19 gallons to 30. But I’m sure that I’ll still carry 4 cans on deck. I’ve thought about noise cancelling headphones. I have a pair, but I’ve been worried about not hearing any alarms…or thunder since I don’t have radar.

@@AmysSoloSailingAdventures I wear them on passages to keep sanity. I can sleep through anything so I wear them when I’m awake. I still hear the ais and radio. It just lessens the engine and the usual at sea noises.

@@sirkyoj1 ah, gotcha. I guess I could just turn the volume down a bit more than where I usually have it. Maybe I’ll give it a try on my next passage. Will have to remember to let you know how it worked out.

No guess what 30 gal if fuel must have ultimately cost but I watched ALL of the adds on the video. Hope it helps a bit. Cheers.

🤣😂 Lolol. Those pesky commercials! Thank you so much, Terry! I don’t remember what the total cost was, but fuel in the Bahamas is crazy high, like 3 times the US! And then when you get into the out islands, it’s even more.

Did you know for sure that you weren't prone to seasickness before you started this adventure, or was that just part of the overall risk?
@AmysSoloSailingAdventures
@AmysSoloSailingAdventures 24 күн бұрын
While I’d never been on a sailboat, I’ve been on open waters a decent amount, and had never gotten seasick. This time was weird. While the videos don’t do it justice, the seas were rough as could be. I was fine….until I went inside. And almost immediately started feeling sick. But as soon as I went back outside, I was fine.
@chapter4travels
@chapter4travels 24 күн бұрын
@@AmysSoloSailingAdventures I think it's because you can't anticipate the movement of the boat visually. I get seasick and carsick if I'm not driving or can't visually anticipate the way a boat will move. It's one of the reasons I didn't do the Great Loop, I would be sick too much of the time.
@AmysSoloSailingAdventures
@AmysSoloSailingAdventures 24 күн бұрын
@@chapter4travels oh, that’s no good. Just going about your business, then getting sick out of the blue. I used to get sick in cars if I was in the back seat. But I’d never felt anything on the boat, not once, until this day. Thanks for that info, though. Maybe when the seas are rougher, I’ll just make sure to not go inside.
