Fun fact: the director of the first two movies (Chris Colombus) tried to convince JK to relocate the movies to America but she outright refused. Then he tried casting Harry with an American actor, but again she refused and said he needs to be British, like the book. I'm glad JK didn't give up the entirety of her franchise to Warner Brothers, otherwise they'd have ended up VERY differently and wouldn't have kept anywhere near the same spirit of the books. Thankfully she overlooked the production, kept it as close to the novels as possible and they ended up being very decent films. God knows what would have happened had she lost her grip on the series.

The thing about James and Lily people forget is that they were in their early 20s when they died. They were young parents. Snape is technically in his mid thirties, Alan Rickman portrayed him perfectly, the only discrepancy is his age, being twice the age of his character. I think it's more emotionally impactful when you met your dead parents and they're only a few years older than you, seeing your father at eye level, disheartening. The actors were cast long before that was known, so no blame there, but I'm glad at least here it shows them to be at the appropriate age.

You are obviously entitled to your opinion, but I personally think Mr. Rickman did a poor job portraying Severus Snape. For me, book Snape and movie Snape are two completely different characters. I love book Snape and I don't recognize him in Mr. Rickman's performance at all. (That's nothing against Mr. Rickman, I just think he was miscast for the role.) Book Snape - 31 years old at the beginning of the series, very pale, skinny, even scrawny. Perfectly composed 99% of the time, volatile emotional bomb 1% of the time. Moves around silently and very inconspicuously (Harry is repeatedly caught by surprise by Snape because he didn't notice him approaching at all.) Soft-spoken. Often verbally harsh but always physically gentle. Students' safety is his no. 1 priority. Movie Snape - 55 years old at the beginning of the series, not pale, not skinny, let alone scrawny. Very conspicuous every time he appears on the screen. Stomps confidently around the corridors. Slams doors and stuff constantly for no reason. Speaks loudly. Also, who the hell came up with that bizarre s-u-p-e-r-s-l-o-w way of speaking? Book Snape never speaks like that. Movie Snape is physically violent towards his students. Gosh how I hate those scenes where he smacks the boys with a book or aggressively shoves their heads. That's something book Snape would never do. Book Snape is a very reserved person, he never initiates physical contact with anybody. As I said, I love book Snape, but I don't care about movie Snape at all. To me, they are two very different characters who have barely anything in common except for their name.

Most ameture only check on the scars, but those who knows just look at his eyes before the scar. In second book, Giny write a poem and emphasize on Harry's pair of green eyes. The movie just remove these details which makes a question mark on some scene.

@Anish Maitra most the casting was done by JK herself. Chris Colombus tried to relocate the movies to America with American actors and JK outright refused. He then tried sneakily to give the role of Harry to an American actor but JK said no and that he had to be British, to keep the spirit of the books. If Colombus had his way the movies would be completely different.

@Anish Maitra sorry, what I mean by relocate is re-localise, so basically Chris wanted Hogwarts to be in actual America and Harry an American citizen, so there wouldnt have been any British mannerisms at all haha. Oh yeah, I'm not saying he did a bad job at all, the first two films are very special and feel great to watch, but I'm also happy JK was around to keep everything in check. Chris is a great director though, make no mistake.

I think the casting was very accurate, even in the character where they're most different from their book representation , there are some key features that make them very accurate, and to be fair the casting is overall very accurate, I think uncle dursley was the most accurate, and mcgonall although much older seems identical to her book counterparts.
