Communication, honesty and compromise are key elements in a marriage. Wether you are from different countries or not people expectations, and personalities are different, you just gotta work together and remember not to squash your individuality. As u get older and you live together longer you find that it will just boil down to the two of you and your family, friends will come and go. I wish you guys the best. Her changing her accent when speaking with Kenyans as a sign of resilience. She can actually give no higher outward form of acceptance and adaptation. Continuing to speak with an American accent means she does not speak the people's language. And that is like having a condescendant attitude towards her African family in law. So, wanting to fit in, she speaks like them, thus creating a bond instead of a breach between her and her husband's people. Wise woman.

My husband is a French immigrant to the USA. Although he has been here since he was a teen ager, we do still have some cultural differences that we have to work through. He is also 15 years older than I am. We have one child together but he has 7 children from a previous marriage. We have many other differences as well. Among those, I have always been the major bread winner of the home and I was a military officer for 21 years. His previous wife had little education and was a stay at home mother. So not only is he French and we have a significant age difference, it has been different for him to be married to a woman with her own money who was the boss of men. We've been together 15 years so most of those differences have been smoothed out but we still occasionally run into communication hurdles etc. Marriage is never easy but I think when you start with different backgrounds, it makes it even harder. My best advice is to keep trying and to always work things out. And yes I totally agree; don't take yourself to seriously and don't be too stubborn because it doesn't help anything. Sorry for writing a book here. 😘😉

i a, a european and can assure you that your experience was unsual. In France the gender does not really make any difference, if they both work...perhaps he was used to "dictate" too much. "Independece" does not come easy for some people but when woman has to work to improve family situation, very old schemes or cultural schemes come out again, because at this age, still, women's work at home is not considered a job per se. This is a global problem. Wish you the very best. You look lovely indeed. Take care and show us more videos, when you can.

France does still have the 'Latin' culture influence of attempted male domination, but French women have done very well for themselves and don't stay silent and hold many high positions. Definitely interesting social dynamics around the world.

I love this video. Some words of wisdom from my end: life is a work in progress. Koree was talking about being accountable now that he's married. When you're single, there's nothing to worry about. Now, you have to show respect for your other half. So, if you're going to be late, it's a courtesy to call the spouse who cooked for you. This way too there's no worry about something happening. The world isn't safe today. Always think about how much time, work and trouble your spouse has gone to-to make sure you are taken care of. If you're going to be late, call or text. When you're angry always remember why you fell in love with him/her. Take a walk or do a boxing tape. When I was first married, my hubby would go for a walk, but I never knew if and when he was coming back. These are things that need to be spoken. I have a quick temper and would have to bite my tongue. You can't take back words that hurt a person's soul. I always repeat to myself: "say what you mean, don't say it mean." I use words that I would want someone to use with me. I found that my hubby was the happiest person when he could meet the guys for beers or watch a game. Who am I to ever deny him that? Marriage isn't a prison sentence. It's allowing the other person to still have a degree of freedom as well as beginning another journey. It was hard learning to be together and not having conversation. We learned to be together but do separate things. Sometimes we dance in the kitchen. I do menu planning. On Friday I plan what we're going to eat over 4-5 days. I plan dinner allowing extra food for lunch the next day. I love doing roasted chicken, potatoes and a vegetable on a Sunday. Crock pots are good for soups. I do a shopping list on Saturday. So, roasted chicken on Sunday, mon-thurs cooking, Friday-take out, sat and Sunday (early)-grilling. Hubby does that on the weekends. I do meal prep. So I make rice for 2 days, sweet potatoes for 2 (all on the weekend) Sorry for the long response. We're still kicking after 30+ years.

This applies to all marriages not just in interracial marriages. I loved this video! Thanks for sharing about your difficulties in marriage, and how you work through them. Even when a couple really loves each other, there will be times of disagreement. But it's how you handle it that's important. I think it is key to remember that your spouse is not your enemy, but your best friend! About accents: my sister moved to England in her early 20's, and it didn't take long for her to acquire an English accent. In fact, when I saw her again a few years later I was surprised at how different she sounded! Since then, she has lived in multiple different countries, and her accent now is difficult to pinpoint. It is very unique to her, as her speech has been influenced by so many different cultures. I really enjoy your channel, Sylvia and Koree! I'm very happy that I found you ❤

Thank you for your honesty and transparency…..Lots of lessons!! Many of your suggestions or solutions will build you a solid relationship and create that “sweet space” for love to grow and for your marriage to last…..It can only get better….Keep it a “threesome”……God, your Love and you!….. Thank the Lord….My husband and I celebrated 49 years last August…..loving each other and setting an example for our kids (4 already married….1 to go). and others we mentor. Blessings

The outtakes at the end were so funny!!! I am 70 years old. I grew up in the northwest corner of Indiana and carried a Gary IN/Chicago accent. When I married at age 20 and moved further south in the state my accent changed to more of a southern Indiana accent. After 10 or so years my dad commented one day about how my accent had changed. We often adapt to what we hear all the time. I saw a criticism on one of your other videos that said you were using a fake accent. I don't think it's fake at all. You are just adapting to your surroundings. I think it's charming!! BTW.. I live in Louisville KY now the past 9 years and I can 'y'all' with the best of them.
