been waiting for this one 🔥 if you want more Future def listen to Monster, it came out right after his relationship with Ciara ended and saw Future turn from the lovesong R&B crooner/trapper to the Future we've known for the last 10 years. You get a real sense of the way he wants to portray himself in his music and why. The mixtape led to DS2, and has two of the biggest fan favorites in his catalogue on there too

Future glazer here, I love how much of a nightmare this whole album sounds like. He paints this picture of hedonism with all the drugs and women and he describes it like a hellscape. Future's whole persona during this era (2014-2019) is that after he fell out with his fiancee, he basically completely crashed out and fell really hard into drugs/hoes, but he intentionally makes it sound like he's becoming a monster and filling a void he can't fix. He'll straight up say it in a lot of songs around this time (can't wait for the Monster reaction), but even when you just listen to the soundscape here you can feel how dark it's supposed to be. A bunch of rappers took a ton influence from his sound, from Juice Wrld to Ken Carson, but I feel like their renditions sound more hollow - like they're actually flexing about how much they're unironically enjoying being so fucked up. Like Lil One used to be a genuinely nasty-feeling song to listen to but now it just sounds like the bars everyone else is spitting. That's the one thing that brings this album down for me nowadays, it feels like other people did this type of Future so much that now it feels more like an album of bangers than a picture being painted.
