small correction : demon was also named hayagreeva . who had a boon from Brahama that another creation like him ( human with a horse head ) could slay him - he was confident that he was unique and no 2nd person like him existed. untill vishnu wokeup from yoga nidhra very fiercely and his head displaced , Bhramaha then replaced vishnu with a Head of a horse creating vishnu avatara of Hayagreeva and returned all the 4 Veda shishu`s. Madhu and Kaitaba war happened even before hayagreeva avatar. later they go on to become gate keepers of vaikunta as jaya and vijaya.

small correction: Jay and Vijay were dwarpals before the madhu kaitabh war. Due to their ignorance, They were cursed by the Char Kumars(4 sons of Brahma ji) to be born in the mortal realm(mrityu lok, ie. earth) and get killed by Vishnu ji, after they refused Kumars entry in Vaikunth Lok. Subsequently, first they were born as Madhu Kaitabh(rakshas) then Ravan and Kumbhkaran(asur) in satyug and last incarnation as Shishupal and Dantvakr(humans) in dwapar yug.

Hayagreeva is a metaphor. so all else following it is part of it. This does not mean that a serene worshipper of him will not get any result. The moment that a jiva becomes an observer , he influences and believes, he actuates further actions all in the illusory mind. The holographic projection of it will also show up in the physical world. Wise men take that single step of enquiry inwardly towards the Spirit from concepts and everything becomes clear to them.
