If this deters anyone from playing it’s important to note that the melee scene is considerably smaller than EU and ESPECIALLLY NA. You’re more likely to match into opponents at your skill level in other regions

So seriously, keep a positive tone and go get em attitude and you have something special content wise! Most musicians, artists, and fighting game folks alike only show their highlights or a finished product or the perfect take. THIS video/series shows the real struggle EVERY SINGLE PERSON has experienced in fighting games that they either forgot about, grew up with and didn’t realize they were ever this bad OR they don’t want to admit. I could see this going beyond just smash and carried over to tekken, street fighter, etc

10:09 Something to note about the ranking system in slippi is it priorities connection before rank so you dont end up in laggy matches but if you are grandmaster you dont have to wait an hour for a match. You also got matched with that shiek because rank reset just happened recently and they only have 3 games played still so you were both around the same elo. Playing after ranked reset you are going to meet players of EVERY skill level rather than players who are actually around 1000 elo which is what you start off as in your placement matches.

I watched a stream of a guy who was high Platinum last season struggling to make it out of silver the night of the reset. Half of the games would be amazing players he didnt stand a chance agaisnt, a 1/4th were nail biters that could go either way, and the other 1/4th were not even close and half the time his opponents would start forfeiting after he took the first stock. Since you can match against players of ANY skill level it's mostly just a roll of the dice. He bet chat he would switch to keyboard if he didnt reach gold by the end of the night and spent over 12 hours streaming and played over 100 games and didnt make it. If you are getting discouraged playing against high level players wait a little bit for the rankings to settle
