Same mate got to the point were I'm hitting it literally about 20 yards In front across the floor so I resorted to hit without a tee for a better shot

Thanks Ali. I’m just like you, in that on par 3s I use a normal tee and press it all the way into the turf so the ball is sitting just above ground height. I find that my shots are much more consistent that way. I normally use an orange castle tee with driver. My club is a links course and can be very windy, so on windier days I use a pink or white castle tee to keep the trajectory down, depending on wind strength. With a 3 wood(metal) off the tee box I would still use a normal tee and pressed close to ground level, as with the par 3s. I think you taught me that years ago!

Thanks for that Ali, always considered teeing up would assist the chances of a better strike but I do come up short quite often. Definitely going to try hitting of the ground / mat in future.

Great lesson... I tee it up thinking that I could hit it in the middle of the clubface easier. Maybe I have been shortchanging myself. I am going to try and lower it and see what happens.

When I started playing I noticed right off that the better par 3 drives were always better and felt better off the floor.

I have tried everything until the other day the basics of using nothing, I know my gapping distances with irons of the fairway so simple took it the the par 3 tee box.

What if you were hitting a 3 iron is it better off the tee or the ground

I stop teeing the ball up on Par 3s and been hitting the regulation greens at least 90% of the time.

Isn't part of the problem that by teeing the ball up on par threes you then lose part of the ability to compress the ball with the iron? A swing that compresses the ball well will produce a much better smash factor and more distance than the swing that is the very same speed but has less smash factor. Even if both shots are hit in the center of the club face.
