A lot of my issues with Hollywood is what I call Iron Man syndrome. RDJ played iron man so well that now everyone wants to have an iron man type character. It gets so repetitive.

I think Hollywood is afraid of sincerity, to show emotions and not be ashamed by them. Maybe a sad reflection of current audiences. I've been watching old Soviet Tarkovsky films and the way they act is so refreshing, no pretense - no undercutting tension, long mostly unedited sequences. Love them.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts; I really liked your observation about the lack of sincerity in Hollywood. It does feel like there’s an aversion to emotional sincerity, as if they associate it with something 'cheesy,' like the "overacting" in Indian cinema or even the melodrama we see in Brazilian soap operas. It’s almost as if they’re so absorbed in their theories about what cinema should be that they’ve fallen into this endless loop of deconstruction and anti-climax, which, honestly, has become pretty tiresome in recent years. In my video, I mentioned how every Hollywood movie seems to push the idea of Manifest Destiny, and I think many of the artists involved - directors, writers, actors, even production assistants - are at least somewhat aware of this. The result often feels like a work filled with cynicism, which can be exhausting. I’m planning to talk more about this in a future video. I’ve been calling it the 'meta-ironic condition,' inspired by Lyotard’s 'postmodern condition' from the early '80s. Thanks to the internet, it feels like we’ve come full circle, seeing the ironic return of meta-narratives. But this return doesn’t feel sincere - it’s like people aren’t willing to truly commit to causes anymore. They perform commitment online, switching ideologies as easily as changing clothes. That ambivalence seems to bleed into Hollywood Cinema as well. David Foster Wallace wrote about the prevalence of irony in television and movies, and I completely agree with him. But I think things have gone even deeper now - so far that it feels like we’ve fused simulation and simulacra entirely. We’re living in this existential nightmare where, more often than not, we’re consuming 'anti-entertainment' - a form of content that doesn’t take you out of reality but throws you right back into it. And since reality itself is so absurd and abject, the only thing left to do is laugh. It’s a complex subject, though, and even this long comment is oversimplifying some ideas. Btw: sorry for the long text. It's already a clichê of mine. Thank you again for your comment - it means a lot to me when people engage like this. I really liked what you said. I’ve only seen one Tarkovsky film, The 400 Blows. It really moved me, but it’s been years since I watched it - I definitely need to revisit it. If you have any other recommendations, I’d love to hear them!

now they spend 250M to make one marvel-esque movie. and RRR was amazing! people have been talking about dune a lot but ive watched both its movies and i didnt like it a bit. where is the world? things are just a sequence of events, exhacerbated by the excessive use of close up shots. its treated as a spectacle, the movies, but the spectacle is the whole background, so there is no spectacle, just background, and the background isnt even really a world but the series of events as i said. it doesnt accomplish nothing, it is dull. and its not even a trend, ive only seen this in the dune films, so i guess theyre just bad no excuses there. but yeah holywood has lost itself in the high budget high box office vicious cycle, everything has copious ammounts of money put into! everything is like that nowdays, excessive and gluttonous, everything behaves like an addict, you know? everyone IS addicted. i like to go back to those old forums from time to time, it always makes me happy for some reason. people love to say they invented doomscroll but doomscrolling on social media and on forums is very different i think. in social media youre always chasing a high, in a forum youre, at least i am, having fun, i know it seems weird and loser behaviour but... idk. maybe thats what is missing, hollywood and everyone is just chasing a high. sorry for the ramble, but its better to do it here than on real life!
