How hormone therapy has affected my husband after 1 week..

Today Austin has some much needed play time with the kids, we talk about his first week of hormone therapy (testosterone), the changes we have noticed, and how it has affected him! I also get my haircut, and the girls give you a little POV vlog tour of their 'houses'. It's super adorable!

A couple of things, as a nurse. When you go to give your injection, whatever amount you are drawing up, so say 1 ml injection fluid, put that amount of air in it, and then inject the air into the vial. If your using the vial multiple times, make sure you clean the top of the vial with alcohol, and also to be safe, stab the vial while on the counter, and then invert it to draw up the fluid. Less chance of stabbing yourself. You can put the cap for the needle on the counter and essentially fish for it to recap minimizing stabbing yourself. Someone said its IM injection, looks like it since needle is long, maybe try deltoid, you can also pinch the muscle up as it will prevent you from hitting bone, worse feeling when the needle scapes bone, definitely alternate sites. You can hold the needle like a dart to make the injection smoother and faster. You can also push the solution in quicker. Good luck, trust me you would do fine as a nurse. It takes practice to get the dexterity of it. I was not the best initially either.

As a person who was medically induced to menopause, you don't realize how much those missing hormones does to you. I can't use replacement hormones as it could trigger a return of my cancer so I feel ya Jess!

What a fun park trip that was! Micah spinning around like a human top and still able to walk straight afterwards was impressive! The contrast in clothing was funny. Granny and Grandpa in long sleeves, pants, warmer clothes, Austin in a tank top and Jess in short shorts. One pair is dressed for hot weather and one for cool! Lucas is looking more like a toddler than a young baby. Ya'll need to update your page photos here as you have one with Paige as the baby in arms. Disney and more is going to be so memorable for all!

A heard a nurse once say that once you wipe with the alcohol it's the air drying of the alcohol that is the sanitizing part, not giving a shot when still wet. I give myself a B-12 shot every two weeks

That is true. RN here. My Dr's wipe my "site" after my infusions...every 3 weeks. And THAT sucks.lol. I can not give shots to myself....but anyone else(except little babies/kids)..I'm good.❤

So I don’t know if you are flying but when I was on the flight to Florida, the parents worked it out with the airline that when they were on the flight to have the pilots if they could make an announcement about how Hedwig couldn’t make it to (name of kids) bc he couldn’t fly that fast but found the pilots before they took off and gave them their letter to Hogwarts!! That is how the kids found out they were going to Harry Potter world and it was soo cute! Everyone in the plane clapped and was cheering for them! By the way this was over 10 years ago and I even remember it bc it was so special. ❤❤

Micah Kate that was RUTHLESS!!! How on EARTH did she do that 😂😂😂 holy moly that spin was CRAZY lol. Okay...as an x-ray tech who has injected a gazillion patients let me share a few tips...Let the alcohol dry before you inject because it will make the needle sting and push the needle in at a 45° angle because it will be far less painful. Push the fluid quickly because the slow injection will cause more pain. You don't have to recap the bottle of fluid just clean it off with alcohol just before you draw up the batch. I swear if I lived near by I'd come and do it for you...but as I said I've been dealing with injecting and starting IVs for a very long time...Lol! You're doing great just remember to relax . Oh...and Austin...try to concentrate on relaxing your thigh muscle during the injection because it will hurt less. I hope these tips help 🙂

It’s an IM injection. IM needs to be given at a 90 degree angle. Inserting the needle a lot quicker in a dart like motion will help lessen the pain, along with letting the alcohol dry.

I don't know if you have busted out the crawling crab in his closet yet but would love to see Lucas chasing it. Glad you are feeling so much better Austin. The only thing I would suggest for Jess is to add organic extra virgin olive oil to your diet. It helps balance hormones naturally and can help boost energy levels. It has worked for me. 1-2 tablespoons a day. Good luck Jess.

I have seen this mentioned already… I give my husband his shots and it is better for them if you hold the needle like a dart and just put it in fast. Great to hear that it is working so well for you already.

I also get testosterone injections, because my levels were 3.5 which is super low. I get mine done in my upper arm. I get a nurse to come do it for me. I was told by the nurse to let the area that was rubbed with the alcohol swab to let it dry because if you inject with the area still damp, it can hurt the injection site. It was nice to see your whole family, looks like you guys had fun at the park. Wow, your girls are full of energy. I love Lucas's hair lol. Thanks for sharing your family with us.

I know when I was giving my husband injections, it told me to pull back on the plunger before putting the needle in the bottle and drawing up the liquid. It would put air in the bottle and the pressure would help push the liquid into the syringe. Then after pulling the needle out of the bottle you tap out the bubbles. Ours was really thick so we rolled it back and forth in our hand to warm it a bit. Great for you guys to share personal info like this.

When we went on a Disney cruse (2017) we found that it was fun to get off the ship every so often, the temptation to avoid is to go on two many or over book what Disney calls "excursions" or touring various sites or attractions at different ports of call . ive missed a few videos but i did know about the hormone issues...but i would suggest pushing the needle in a bit faster thats probably what was causing so much pain...i know she is nervous thats why she is pushing it in so slowly which i understand. also a tip for your injections and also for the kids when they get theirs...after you get them do a deep rub its something i learned while in college it helps the meds disburse into the body and not just clump up and cause a sore spot. but im glad your doing so well...

Jess before I had to have an emergency hysterectomy at 28 due to my period being 3 weeks of bleeding and one week of not bleeding for a solid year I felt the same way you are feeling I had my hormones tested and I had zero to little Testosterone so my doctor put me on a compounded cream to help and after the 1st week I was feeling so much better. I felt like going and doing things and having fun not just being present. I have stayed on this cream for the last 20 years we do try and go off it every year but I get depressed don't want to do or go anywhere or anything so I have stayed on it with no side effects. Not sure if you have had that checked but thought I would tell you my story.

Definitely get the interactive wands so they can do all the magic. There are some secret unmarked spots if you as the staff. If you are going to Orlando… take the train to the other park (need park to park pass or counts as 2 separate days). The train station and going through the 9 3/4 wall is something to see. I love the frozen or cold butter beer and the butter beer ice cream is yummy. A sit down meal at the 3 broomsticks or the leaky cauldron is worth the experience. They might like some of the live shows as well… and the candy/trick shop. And watch for the dragon breathing dragon.

After watching Micah, I know Jess said getting her on silks, but figure skating is a good idea too! Most people, especially kids, would not be able to do that stop spinning and runoff like there is no issue?!? I just had to start doing finger sticks and injections too. It’s no fun.

Hi Spomer's. Jess before you fill up the needle with the hormones for Austin, put air up to line and put it in the vile. It makes it much easier to draw the testosterone into the needle. You should alternate the legs as well. Grab the flesh before you inject too. Hopefully this will help you and Austin in the future. Thank you for sharing this journey with us

Go to your doctor, have your blood checked they will draw some blood to see what vitamins you maybe Deficient in.. i bet ya B12 sounds like.. maybe other but you wont know til you find out fromt he Blood tests im taking B12 and d B6 Folic acid and iron and Iron because im going through the changes Ibet ya after maybe after a month you W i l l feel new Good luck with it

Someone said it was an IM, and the needle looks like IM. If it's subq, then you are right. If subq, then the stomach would be easier and probably less painful.
