So you know PLA has low high temperature resistance and inside a car on a hot enough day it will soften enough to flex and loose shape (ask me how i know :D) the best material is ether PETG, ABS or ASA which the X1c can easily print with as well (would recommend eSun ABS+). ive had both PETG and ABS on parts on my car and they are fine even when we have 108f days you wont need to do any design changes.

I did not think about this. I wonder what the failure temp is? I’ll have to test! I’ve just begun working with other filaments. Thanks for the tip!

@@armouroverland The Temp that PLA starts to deform is 55-60C or 140F. This is the glass transition temp. PETG is around 80C ABS and ASA are around 100C. Anything you print with PLA and leave in the car on a hot summer day will deform to some degree. It may not be catastrophic failure but clamps/ clips wont hold items any longer. Since you can print ABS/ASA with your printer use them over PETG as PETG can be stingy and a pain to remove from some beds. None of my prints have failed with PETG or ABS.

I prefer PC over ABS and ASA, less toxic

@@armouroverland @unconstit1onal29 Agree 100%, PLA will work until it doesnt - it'll deform just on a summer day with a little bit of tension. ESUN or Bambu PETG prints just fine on the Bambu with the slicer set to use Bambu PETG. Super easy and no stringing. The only recommendation is to use the textured bed, NOT the default smooth plate. Source: 100+ kilos of PETG printed on X1C's :)

I saw a few people already mentioned PLA, I use ABS, PETG and ASA in my car prints as the car gets really warm inside and then PLA deforms really quickly.

Yup I pretty quickly learned after this video to use ABS and PETG for most of my applications. The comments were helpful.

I really enjoyed watching! I am a beginner in the 3D printing world. I have been looking for sites to print things for my Gladiator Rubicon. Would you mind sharing some of the sites you found?

I like printables.com they seem to have a ton of stuff. A lot of the items I print I make myself using different CAD software.

Nice, I already made a cap for my awning to protect it from wear. I use PETG since it's more heat resistant and UV resistant. PETG is more flexible also so it would hold those poles good if you make them tighter than the PLA ones.

Yeah I’ll definitely be experimenting with more materials.

Nice work! You say you're no engineer, but your video begs to differ- you're starting off strong with these designs. Keep it up. Tip- PLA is definitely going to fail in a car. I'd recommend three materials with different tradeoffs- ASA is great for this application and what many sun-facing car parts are made of, but on the X1C specifically, ASA and ABS will deposit a film on the carbon rods that'll cause movement issues and you'll need to clean them frequently. Nylon would work (Like PAHT-CF from Bambu themselves) but it's incredibly moisture sensitive and you'll need to print it from a dryer. PC-PBT would also work well- Not UV resistant but a good all-around material and tough as nails in the entire temperature range a car experiences- from below freezing to baking in the sun. Just clear coat them if you want them to not fade after a few years.

2:44 dude, you aren’t doing anything different than engineers hahaha. If the part/assembly is small enough to be 3D printed you definitely have to 3D print and dry fit stuff. We definitely have techniques and fancy software to help us minimize the iteration process but dry fitting is a thing.
@armouroverland
@armouroverland 10 ай бұрын
Yeah that makes total sense. I love how fast you’re able to iterate with one of these printers.

Inside pla isn't a good option. It will warp and melt due to heat. ASA would have been ideal or petg. I've been making mounts and molle panels from carbon fiber nylon lately and it's pricey but man it's stupid strong. And the X1C prints it perfectly
@armouroverland
@armouroverland 6 ай бұрын
Yeah I love the X1C. I had a lot of feedback about the PLA and swapped these prints over to PETG. I haven't messed with the nylon but ill check it out!

Someone with similar intrests, #1 4xe, #2 overlanding, #3 3d printing. And here i thought i was the only one! 😅 Excellent videos, very informative. Just got my 2024 willy's 4xe, and i am in the process of making parts lists for setting it up for overlanding. I am definitely going to look into some of the parts you've used.
