We usually just either have mods watching who keeps upping a counter on each attemp or how I do it which is just download a counter app on my phone and tap the screen each time an encounter happens, currently at around 400-500 for a shiny lapras using maseuda method in shield. I don't do shiny hunting on KZbin or anything but I might on my twitch one day but it'll be in a year or so if I ever do

this reminds me of how i’m convinced i was the first person to obtain a shiny yamper. preordered sword on the eshop and started playing as soon as it came out. literally the first pokémon i find in the grass once you get balls was a shiny yamper. caught it and used it for the whole playthrough, it was to the point where serebii didn’t even have the shiny sprite for shiny yamper, i’m sure there’s a possibility i wasn’t the first but i was definitely close

Dallas went over 70k resets for shiny Registeel, that was nuts. Now, Taylor is getting his numbers up there for his shiny Bitzle/Zebstrika hunt, I've sat in on quite a bit of his streams with no action happening & yet, I still throw channel points on betting he will find a shiny. Last I saw, he was in the later part of the 50ks. He's triple hunting but doing so in the double encounter grass so it's insane that he still doesn't have a shiny, don't know if he'll ever pass your number but suppose we'll see. I sat in on Dallas' streams for Registeel & I did not think he was going to get into 70k range but he did so anything is possible.

Only other non event shiny I've got was a Roselia in ORAS that was just a random encounter while I was playing through the game. Same ! I have no luck when it come to shiny hunting. I would never have the patience to shiny hunt for one pokemon, so a full pokedex... I started pokemon with Yellow when I was 5, and I've played most of the mainline game. Without wonder trade and event, I only encounter 2 shinies : A red gyrados (another one that the one from silver) and a shiny regice (that is so barely noticable that I didn't get it was a shiny when I caught it xD). One of my favorite lucky shiny encounters to look back on was the release weekend of Ultra Sun/Moon. I simply wanted a female Charmander, so I kept resetting the Island Scan for it. At only 8 encounters though, the RNG decided to give me a shiny boi instead.

What I found quite amusing when I shiny hunted in Sword was that I was pretty lucky finding a lot of shinies while only completing half of the Pokedex. It was so good that while shiny hunting for one Pokemon, I found two other shinies and on another occasion, I found a shiny Arcanine after 10 encounters, making it my fastest shiny hunt ever. And once I had completed the Pokedex and got the shiny charm, my shiny luck just disappeared and have been on a shiny hunting drought ever since.

I caught a shiny Scorupi by complete chance in Sword. I wasn't even looking for one. I was getting Galarian Farfetch'd for my ex-friend and I. We were going to have a little competition to see who'd evolve it first. The reason being it needs to land three crits in one battle to evolve. Neither of us were all that sure how it'd work so we devised this competition. I had to catch them though cause Farfetch'd was exclusive to Sword and he had Shield. I had spent perhaps a few hours trying to catch one. Why hours? Game Freak gave them the move Final Gambit. It's a fighting type which deals a lot of damage and causes the user to faint. It's basically Explosion or Self Destruct. Yeah so I caved and bought Quick balls. I have this thing where Great balls work way more often than Ultra balls and specialty balls just don't work when they should. I don't know. So I caught one and luckily he was holding a Leek. Now I was catching my ex-friend's. An hour passes and I got jumped by the normally purple scorpion. I was drowsy (not the Pokèmon) so I didn't take notice at first. As I was about to run I realized it looked off. Then it clicked and I tried to catch it. I wasn't going to sweat it if I failed as I'm not a shiny hunter and don't really care if it's shiny or not. I caught it and was proud that I finally got a legit shiny that wasn't a mystery gift or scripted event...well actually I got a shiny Sudowoodo in Coliseum before that but I don't know if they revert once purified. To finish the story I did catch a Farfetch'd for my friend but she wasn't holding a Leek. I had Redd, my Thievul, steal one from a Farfetch'd. Also I evolved mine first. It was much easier than I was anticipating. Sirfetch'd are crit machines.

I did 300 celebi encounters every day on virtual console crystal on the 3ds trying to get a shiny celebi to name RedOnion. It took me over 3 years. That's well over 300,000 encounters. I didn't record it. It wasn't worth it at that point.

That shiny pichu story is actually similar to one I had. I wanted to solo run heart gold with shiny pichu, but I gave up on trying to get one after a while. What I did was breed a pichu in diamond, make sure the steps were low on it, then trade it to Pokemon Heartgold. Lo and behold when I hatched it in HG, it was shiny, and I beat red with that little pichu haha.

I've only ever gotten 3 shiny pokemon in my entire life. A scraggy in black and it was completely on accident, last year I hunted a Shiny Magikarp and my friend grabbed my switch and casted the rod into the water one time and got the shiny, and then I was helping that friend Legendary hunt in Ultra Sun and accidentally got a shiny in my first portal (don't remember what it was). Getting up into those numbers takes some serious dedication. I honestly not sure what my longest was, although I do know of a couple of hunts that practically shattered my sanity(Shiny HA female Eevee and Shiny Tapu Lele in Dynamax Adventures).

My most memorable shiny was in Legends Arceus. I completed the side quest for the freebie shiny Ponyta and added it to my team cause I like how shiny Ponyta looks. Later in the same play session, I was back in the Horseshoe Plains looking for an Eevee when I heard the little shiny jingle. I frantically swiveled the camera around to find the shiny and what Pokémon do you think I see? Another frickin shiny Ponyta just casually strolling along. I was genuinely questioning my sanity. Like, what on earth were the odds?! It was the same play session! Not even an hour had passed since I got the freebie Ponyta! Apparently the game was like, oh, you like the pretty horse? Have another! By now the first Ponyta (the freebie) is a Rapidash I like to use frequently, but the other still has a special place in my heart. The Ponyta wasn’t the only weird out of nowhere full odds shiny I’ve gotten in Legends so far, but I’ve rambled long enough.

What’s funny is I had a near identical experience to this, only reversed. My 2nd play-through of PLA, I’m running around the Obsidian Fieldlands and stumble across the shiny Ponyta. I assume that because I knew of the quest for it, it had gone ahead and spawned for me and I figured, “sure why not?” and caught it. Only to find out that I hadn’t accepted the quest yet and my mind went “???!” I went back out there (with the quest this time) and sure enough, there was the 100% spawn.

@@FrenkTheJoy I don’t have the patience to pursue a living shiny Dex. I don’t want to even THINK about how much of a headache it would be to hunt the Distortion-only ones. The last ‘mon I needed to complete the normal Dex was Shieldon (+ evo.) Not Cherrim, not Spiritomb… Shieldon.

My most memorable shiny encounter was during the bug contest in Heart Gold. I caught a shiny butterfree and named her melody. I have been taking that bug along with me up through every subsequent gen with butterfree. and when pokemon home updates, I will bring her to paldea. I'm not even a shiny hunter so it's pretty neat

The chance of this happening on any particular shiny hunt, start to finish, is a 1 in 4470. So, depending on how many shinies you have by now, it COULD happen again. xD Also, the newer record has only a 0.02067% chance of occuring, or a 1 in 4838.

I was playing scarlet and just randomly running around trying to find the magnemites and ran into a shiny magneton so I pulled out my thunder stone evolved it and kept it on my team for the rest of my play through.

I got one shiny pokemon as a kid and it was a Ponyta on Fire red. My brother (4 years older than me) told me if I let it evolve it wouldn't be blue anymore so it was a ponyta forever. Now I just think he was either jealous or didn't know.

I remember that my second shiny, not including the Red Gyrados, was a ryhorn that I found in the safari zone in leaf green. The only other shiny that I ever saw was a torcoal in my Sapphire. I thought they were glitches at first because I never heard of shiny Pokémon until later.

Fun story. I think I might have the record for fastest non starter shiny in a pokemon game. It happened in Sword. Very first non scripted encounter was a shiny Skwovet

Funny story, when I was a kid I didn't know shiny pokemon were a thing and because Ash had a shiny knocktowl in the anime I thought that was the standard color of them. So as a kid my very first hoothoot was shiny and evolved into shiny knocktowl. I thought nothing of it until I decided to start a new playthrough after I beat the game and played it for hundreds of hours, and the next time I caught a hoothoot and evolved it to knocktowl I was like, "why is it not yellow?... this one must be different I guess..." Years later when I got back into pokemon as an adult and saw a brown knocktowl I was like, "why aren't knocktowl yellow anymore?" Soon after, I found out that shiny was a thing and that blew my mind to realize I had a shiny pokemon and even got it to lvl 100 and then just discarded it to replay the game all without knowing. I did see a shiny caterpie as a kid too and I freaked out for days trying to catch the gold caterpie. It was the first pokemon I found after discovering you can use headbut on trees to find pokemon so I thought headbutting trees was the way to get special colored pokemon. So I spent countless hours headbutting trees in the forest in johto until I figured I wasn't finding another one this way.
