NEVER detangle wet hair. Not sure where this advice came from but if you do it, good luck! Hair is the most fragile when wet. Don’t detangle on dry hair either. The key is to detangle hydrated hair, use a leave-in or cream to detangle and help add slip to avoid breakage. You’re welcome.

Thank you for the great tips! My thin fine 4C hair has been very damaged. My mother decided to have my sister and my hair relaxed at ages 8&7. I was 7 and this was done in the early 70's so you can imagine how damaging the products were on our hair. It got worse because through the years she experimented on our hair with her version of home relaxers of course our hair fell out and experience chronic breakage and bald spot. We learned to style our own hair and I remember that simple styling helped along easy products. We use Murray's Pomade and mixed in olive oil and these easy to obtain products grew our hair back. As for shampoo and conditioner the cheap stuff with the least amount of products in it were fine. Nothing fancy or expensive was ever needed. I go back these products even now. I detangle with olive oil and sometimes a little water and oil. I do use a small tooth comb to assist with detangling. My hair matts, so finger detangling doesn't always work as the only thing for my hair. It no longer takes me days to detangle or wash and condition. I no longer braid/ twist my hair before washing, ( it made my hair a matted mess). I had to learn that every tip isn't for my hair and all 4C hair is not alike. I don't know many people who've had such damage done to their hair so early in its development, maybe if I spoke to women in my age, I would find more victims. But my generation hasn't spoken as openly about this type of hair damage in person, it's why I gravitate to KZbinrs in my age group here and others discussing the natural hair issues and challenges. I've been able to grow my hair pass.my shoulders and I'm pushing it to go further. I appreciate the tips that you've shared.

I’m in that group and I was also given a perm at a very fragile age and I really believe it is the reason I have fibroids today because I continued the perms up into my 40’s I literally just learned how to care for my natural hair a couple years ago and I’ve been natural for 10-15 years. My hair has finally gone passed my shoulders due to me making my own organic and natural products. Our hair craves Africa. This western way has killed our hair

@@ebonywatson9939 Wow, our journeys are so similar I often wonder what it is like to have a mother who natures and protect their children's hair, I guess it would have done the same thing in loving and protecting their children's well-being. It comes from the same place. But, if this does not occur we must learn how to pour into ourselves and I too learned to really restore the health of my hair as an adult. Yes, the African strategies definitely serve as a great foundation to begin conditioning and growing stronger longer hair. I celebrate your achievements! Be blessed.
