How I Almost RUINED My YouTube Channel

Sorry for the loss of your cat. Pets are one of the few cases of unconditional love we have. Of course they are truly missed when they go. My cat just climbed into my lap as I am typing this. He has kidney troubles, so I don't know how much longer I will have him. Yeah, I know I won't care about my KZbin channel or much else when he passes either. Best wished to you and I am glad I found your channel.

I have lost so many fur friends it is always gut wrenching. I know exactly what you were feeling, and I am glad you are doing better. I want to thank you for this video. I am really grateful I found you. I had been torn between posting my videos on other social media platforms. I even made a Twitter account and a TikTok account. I never watched Twitter or TikTok, never wanted to. I was following advice much like you did. Yes, it was bringing down my watch time. I changed my niche on my channel that I had over 8000 subs on. I had not posted anything there for many months. I did not know I should have turned off the notify subscriber's button when posting new videos if you change your niche. I lost 60 some subs. I fixed that and turned it off on all the new videos I am posting. Now I will not be sharing any of my videos with Facebook, Twitter, TikTok or any others. I will do as you advise and let KZbin find my new viewers. Thank you so much. Best of luck always. New sub.

If I started a new KZbin channel day, I would do things totally different. I would make it easy editing as I could. I would do everything consistent.And I would try to post at least 3 videos a week

I just heard yesterday that KZbin will become more conversation-friendly where subs can interact more with a creator and each other. I felt they were trying to take away a bit of Facebook's hold. When I first met my husband, he had a 13-year-old cat, and I only knew him for two months before learning that he had kidney failure. Even though I had only known him for a short amount of time, when he passed, it was really hard for both of us and it left a hole. I still miss him. I’m sorry to hear about rat face. Pets are family. I wouldn't worry too much about incidental external shares by viewers -- they don't seem to matter that much in the scheme of things. It's more negatively impactful if you're the one doing it and you're doing it over and over again.

I think you nailed it. KZbin is the place for posting content preserves versus content quips. People who like quips don't stick around for the required 30 seconds to count as a monetizable viewer but retaining your audience attention beyond those first 30 seconds is so important for the algorithm to determine who your core audience is. When I rebuilt my channel, starting over this year from scratch to repost copyright clean videos, it took the algorithm from January to June to find my core audience again even though I had retained about 650 subscribers from the previous year. My mother had a stroke in February that I was offline for a few months to deal with it, but my channel didn't pick up again until I logged back in. I'm sorry your beloved cat passed away. But I think I was one of those 4,000 or so people who found your video then and started watching the rest of them. You were so real about your own experience. You were a great contrasting voice to the coaches who seem to copy each other's talking points and advice rather than offer any fresh perspective on it, perhaps because your main channel isn't about helping other people succeed as a KZbin channel. Awww thank you! Ratface got that name because when he was a kitten, he had a huge snout... he looked very rodenty. He grew into his nose and became very handsome, but the name stuck. He was a great cat.

Aww thank you! Yeah, my background is in psychological research so I tend to frame things that way -- but also I think it's just BETTER to understand WHY we're doing things? That way if anything changes on KZbin/other platforms, you can reason out what to do. Where if you just memorize tricks without knowing WHY you're doing things, if anything at all changes, you won't know what to do. So I try to teach the information the way I process and learn it (I'm a very practical person).

First, let me say that I'm very sorry to hear about your cat. That's rough and I wish you healing and peace. It is clear you loved them so much and at 19, obvious you gave them a good life. Second, thank you for this video! I have been watching tip videos incessantly and this is the first time anyone has even mentioned external advertising and in such detail. Everything you said made a lot of sense. Also, and I know this is a bit off topic, could you offer advice to authors on marketing/growth or even querying? I self-published 5 books under my legal name between 2019-2021 with little success (though I have gotten a lot of positive feedback). I've still been writing since then, I just haven't published anything. I started almost 2 years ago querying for traditional representation. I've recently finished my first full length horror novel (I'd only written horror shorts before), which is why I wanted to start this channel- as a creative outlet for my horror interest and eventually, hopefully, to advertise my horror books (which at the moment, I fully intend to self-publish). I do go through the effort of paying professional beta readers and sensitivity readers too. I've been doing a lot of research on marketing and such, but nothing beats hearing advice from someone who's been there. And congrats on your success in that realm :)

Hmm... I was planning some episodes that were focused more on being a writer/author. I'll think on it. One thing I found helpful in addition to growing my author social media presences (key in this day and age) was doing paid work for online magazines. It helped pay bills, yes -- but it also helped with exposure and reaching new readers -- and most importantly, fostering good connections with magazine editors (who tend to be very connected). I have a future episode I'm currently editing about how being a writer affects my Youtubing -- that talks a bit about pitching to magazine editors (although it's not he focus). Self-publishing/indie authorship for books/long form writing has really gotten to be a much more lucrative path in recent years, for sure. Even the traditional authors are expected to have platforms/social media these days and to do a lot of their own self-promotion (and then they have to split royalties with publishers). It's a tough business, I'll say -- and only getting tougher (the market for books as a medium pales compared to the market for video). So don't be too tough on yourself.

Being a KZbinr is very similar to running your own business. You should upload things people want to see, just like businessman should offer product/service that people need. And when the growth becomes real, you can consider hiring people to help you run your channel more efficiently. The most difficult part is starting and growing of course, but consistency and hard work (with a little bit of help from Famester of course) will always pay off at the end.

I would never share my video links on Facebook. I have my IG connected to my KZbin, and also have a Pinterest to showcase it, too. That’s because my channel is content for teachers and that’s where they are finding inspiration or help for their painpoints. I know that because I am a teacher, too. If they see a video on their lunch time, they’re highly likely to add it to their ‘watch later’ playlist. Those get sent back to you as a reminder in the scroll list on your home button, and again I know this because I see that myself when I do it. It also helps to follow channels that share the same kind of content that you’re posting, to get KZbin to suggest your content to those who need to see it. Why I would never share on FB: it’s mostly my elderly relatives there and I keep my FB content restricted, so it wouldn’t make sense there since they aren’t my targeted audience. KZbin does have a personal feed; it’s on the “subscription’ tab. You have toggle over to that to be in that space, though; it’s not the default. . . Many heartfelt condolences on your cat. My 2 youngest sons each lost their cat within the last month--one of them was elderly so it wasn’t a surprise, but the other cat was a healthy 7 year old, who grieved himself after the older cat died, right into a heart attack. Here’s to heart healing for everyone. ❤

Food for fhought most definitely, but it also implies that you tube is atill actively promoting your content, which mime seems to fall flat on impressions after 5 days, then its just a odd search or a new user subscribing and routing around i see,. so I'm pretty sure after 5 days I'd be fine, its all relative to how successful your content is, and yours is very successful, well done!

Yeah, sharing your channel link instead of videos is a good strategy! And I've found that if I DO want to promote a video externally that the best way to do that is as a "rerun" so only posting it externally after a week or two has passed and KZbin has had time to do some experiments first. Interesting! I created our FB page 1st to 'ease into' content creation and see if it was something I would stick with. Once I confirmed I would, I started the KZbin channel, and since I already had 3K followers on Facebook I was sharing the video there as well. Maybe it's been hurting me more than helping.....
