just wondering you hookup the siphon with UV to do sand wash once only at the beginning, then the rest of the week(s) just UV in sump circling instead of vacuum siphon, is that correct? Tank looks awesome by the way

@Angry Owl Aquariums Did you eliminate them for good? Just wondering as I started running a UV sterilizer with a 430gph pump dialed back with a ball valve to around 25% open. Trying to kill off my dino outbreak right now and it sucks! :)
@angryowlaquariums405 жыл бұрын
They stayed away for 4 months.. at the end of June however my phosphates hit 0 again (not sure why) and boom! Dinosaurs back with a vengeance worse than before. So for the past 5 weeks or so I've fought the good fight and things are looking promising. This round I used the method outlined in reefdudes latest dino video. I will caution you follow that method exactly or it could be bad! Let me know if you have any questions! 🍻🦉

I’m going to start with siphoning the dinos into 10 micron filter socks, then, remove all carbon and treat the tank with Dino X while going 4 days of darkness, then siphoning again into10 micron filter socks, then continuing to dose Dino X every two days until the dinos are gone, as well as continued dosing Brightwell microbacter7 to increase beneficial bacteria to outcompete the Dinos for nutrients. Then, recognizing that the dinos probably appeared due to ULN-ultra low nutrient levels of nitrate and phosphate, I will dose Brightwell NeoNitrate and NeoPhos to elevate those levels to find the balance again within my tank. Any positive or negative comments with this approach?

Joey I’m not and expert but went it come to dynos what I do is vacuum the sand and brush the rocks dnt let it settle if u give it time to settle it will take longer to go away
@lukesreef85104 жыл бұрын
Further, I saw another KZbin video on the subject that ran micro bubbles during or just after brushing the rocks with a toothbrush, which encouraged the dinos to cling to the bubbles and go down the overflow into 10 micron filter socks to capture the dinos

Hey, great video nice idea with the siphon and uv hooked up to kill off most of it initially. I'll do this before hooking it up this weekend permanently. How did you hook up the UV afterwards? I was going to initially hang it over the tank and do a display to display pump in and out but after will permanently hook it up in the sump.

Do you directly add MB7 to tank or mix with water first. The directions say to mix with tank water. I am trying to figure out if I have dinos. It dosnt look stringy like that, but it got bad after a water change and coated my freshly cleaned wavemakers in just a few days. It also happened after my nirtaes got real low and phosphates zero from using nopox so these are signs but looks a lot like diatoms. It also real bad on glass and maybe GHA as well.
@angryowlaquariums404 жыл бұрын
You can add directly to the tank but you can also pour it in some tank water for 10-15 min to 'wake' it up. Either way should be just fine. I'd say your biggest issue sounds like you have zero nutrients and I'd remove the nopox or at least reduce it while feeding a little more, that sound help if its dinos. If its gha, you may need to beef up your cleaning crew or add some fish that eat algae! If you're in instaham send me a pic of it 🦉🍻

Your tank seems out of balance, I bet you have zero nitrates and phosphate.. just by looking at your starving corals. It looks like it's a freshly cycled tank but no biodiversity. Continue dosing different bacteria strains and increase feedings and get some nitrates in system, if you don't have it you need some sort of phosphate control or you will get algae bloom next. Just a young nutrients, biological weak system still that's not completely ready

Looks like you're really trying really hard to fix this. If I may, I'd suggest not giving yourself too much trouble. I'd leave it. I think the root cause is your tap water. I'd try to find out what's happening with it. Just my 2 cents.
