Its taken me a while to do this. I give Robbie a tour of West London to walk him through how I spent those first 10,000 hours becoming a film composer via the untrodden waters (as they were then) of Adult Films, Drum & Bass and Breakbeat. Its a route that starts in Shepherd's Bush and finishes in Soho... a kindly London cabbie took us to all ten destinations. But tell us, how much do you think the fare was???

What an incredible story! I remember you mentioning bits and pieces of it many times, Christian, but having it recounted from beginning to end felt just marvellously inspiring

Great stories! Lived in london from 93 to 21, all over the city - north, south, east and west. I have a massive fondness for all the new music scenes, record shops and wild night clubs that exploded across the city in the 90's. Amazing period, the city was so vibrant. All closed now with the cultural and economic blend disappearing as the rich gentrify everything in the city. Its a bit of a creative shell now, a fading corporate echo of more interesting times.

Fascinating story, well told, leaving the most definite impression there is FAR more to tell. That you mostly seem to come out of left field comes as no surprise and I rather suspect sharing a pint of creme de menthe or two over further reminiscences would prove a bit of a grin. Thanks for sharing this, chap.

This video nourished my fucking soul. I grew up in London, and despite being 29 and growing up in a different era from you, I remember the "fucking rough" edges which have all been sanded down by gentrification nowadays. I moved away from London for uni a decade ago, and since covid have been priced out of the UK entirely, but I'd love to be able to move back there and work in that mental energetic enviroment again before I die. :)

I love these kind of stories .. I had tons of as weell .. I was a musician, but made like 100K / month coding all sort of weird stuff .. A good example, we coded for a huge game production company and they occasionally asked us: Lads, where do you want to go for the next 6 months? .. Dublin (I had a Thin Lizzy fetish), so we went there, coded two weeks, partied two weeks and so on. Man so many places .. man, I looked like a rock star, but made my money on code .. so much coke, so little time :P

Thanks for that look back on your journey... as others have said we've heard parts of those stories before, but that was really good fun, and I hope it was for you too. Always a pleasure, Dex :)

Fascinating video, Christian! I was living in Notting Hill in the mid 2000s as I worked at the BBC, this was a trip down my memory lane too, although your life was a lot more colourful than mine was. What you say about the BBC club was completely true though, those were good years.

Sounds like a lot of adventures! And perhaps both blessed and cursed at the same time? Overall though it sounds like you wouldn’t have traded most of it which is cool😎 Looking forward to seeing how the new ventures evolve especially the ideas previously mentioned of bringing people together to hopefully create their own adventures too 👍

Amazing story! Thanks so much for sharing :) I grew up in Fulham - when it was full of bank robbers!! My first job was bottling in an irish pub off parsons green - my 2nd working in a shop in Portobello road selling all star baseball boots... and occasionally.. for the 'boss' ... small packets of something...!! All the while similarly convinced I was going to work composing music - which I did - in a similarly roundabout way of dodgy gigs, festivals, squatting, etc etc. Ah London - Brings back fond and sometimes scary memories!! Unique City.

This has inspired me! We share similar stories, although I grew uo in Copenhagen, Denmark. However, I dont really know others in the music industry, thus trying to make it on my own. Which, as you can imagine, is not easy. However, Crow Hill has inspired me a lot in recent months. I enjoy the products, and the sounds they make. Surely they will be heard in my future songs and jingles....

I lived in Ladbroke Grove from 1986 when I was 25 years old. Made friends with people who went to Holland Park. Loads of well known musicians lived in the area at the time. Best time of my life.

Appreciate the stories, Christian. FWIW, your story at 6:30 or so really probably points to the ADHD. ADHD kids end up a little more developmentally immature than the people we're around and the lack of wanting to conform, well, that's a big part of it too. Learning about that stuff after my diagnosis helped me sort a bunch of stuff out about my school years.

I want to live in Camden. I didn't realise how important living in Camden is until I watched Disney+ and the artists who are at the top of the game, originally owe it to being in the fold and getting noticed in industry. I was so close to getting that major publishing deal until Perfect Songs realised our band were living in Northampton. It led me to wonder of you grew up hanging out in Camden and then you upload this video, which sounds like you steered clear of the place as a media composer.

I'm getting paranoid here - so many weird factual errors in this. Trolling? Eric Idol getting his limbs cut off by Chevy Chase? His bike was hit. Notting Hill highest point in London? Not even top 20.
