This video literally CHANGED MY LIFE. I have found this video as soon as it was posted, by some weird sheer luck. I was sad, depressed, very sick, staying in a Hostel with almost no money, in a foreign country. I was looking for something to motivate me change my life, and find something that drives my heart and mind on a daily basis, something I can indulge in and keep me fulfilled. I gave myself 3-6 months to get where I want. I got there in 6 months. I got an achievement unlocked and now I am on my next 3-6 months journey. I have No Words for enough Thank you for sharing this

It's always refreshing to see new UX designers share their stories on KZbin, especially those who are self-taught. I come from a UX bootcamp background, and I can say with confidence that it IS possible to learn UX by yourself if you're dedicated and have the motivation and drive to do it. It's admirable to listen to your story and so many others who have transitioned into the field not having any sort of design background (I'm in that boat). I just want to say thank you for putting yourself out there and for sharing your beautiful story. I know that people will appreciate this, especially those who need that extra push to take the leap of faith. So thank you!

Thanks for the kind words Jason! You're right, it IS possible to be self-taught in design :) I'd add that a strong design eye is important so you instinctively know what's good design and what can be improved.

Have you got a job in UI UX?
@julesm90813 жыл бұрын
Exactly this has inspired me so much- I used to work in catering and was bullied so much by managers. Then I got a kitchen shop Job but was made redundant from it last August due to the pandemic- I have applied for hundreds more jobs with no luck yet - and when I got another rejection recently I just decided that’s it, I want to learn something new and give myself hopefully something to put on my cv that will stand out. I have enrolled on a coding course online. And I also really want to learn ux. this true story is such an inspiration to me I have watch it at least 6 times this past week. Just so incredibly inspirational I’m so grateful to have found this video thank you Rachel for making it and sharing it!

Some companies and hiring managers dislike people that are too ambitious. The reason because being too ambitious means they can't control you and you will stir things up. Also some managers can see you as a threat. sucks but that is reality.

@@AnthooFitz Wow. Now I understand my past job situation. Thank you! I was so ambitious at my job that they wanted to control me to exhaustion. From the Day1 (Nov'21) I got inspired by your videos, it's like GRWM landing in a new field with no experience, no degree BUT these things are really me. It has already been 2 months since I started free online courses and it's only a few months left, I haven't started any projects yet. I'm SO BURNED OUT to pick the good and right one put into my portfolio. Tick tick... (but not Boom!) I woke up this morning I got back to watch this video again, you REMINE me what my goal is. I'm getting better now and ready to continue my journey! Thank you again for sharing your awesome stories!! Thanks so much, Rachel :)

Love this! Great job on turning it all around. The beauty of the technology industry, in particular app development, UI/UX etc is how accessible it is. Gone are the days where CV's are the only metric too, online portfolios, general engagement with the community and networking go so far too. Subscribed and looking forward to seeing more content! 👋 from the UK!

Congratulations Rachel! Your hard work definitely paid off! I just want to point out that ultimately it comes down to you (whoever's reading this) as an individual. If you're self motivated and have good discipline skills, then you can definitely be self-taught and do well. For me, I need that curriculum and mentor hand holding. I need to have peers to reach out to that I know are going through the same grind. Everyone learns differently but everyone can make that first step and find what works for them (:

Thank you for sharing. You were a digital marketing manager, so technically you were not "no experience", actually, your work experience in digital marketing helped you a lot in your UX design career. I understand you want to encourage people with zero experience, but at the end of the day, people are gonna freak themselves out by seeing "at least 3 years experience" on entry-level job descriptions and gave up

@@madcityy269 don't know if you reply to this but I have been doing coding / css and html for years now and a college for BA in Web Design in my state is offering the degree. Do you think that's a good choice? I am very self taught in alot of programs etc. But I definitely wonder getting this degree will also help me. I also think UI / UX design as well as Graphics is right up my alley. // I agree, alot of places I see hiring for these positions need to see strong portfolios and also a degree in some type of field. Alot of these videos are beyond misleading.
@madcityy2692 жыл бұрын
@@tragicriots a lot of the designers I work with have a master's degree in digital design and interaction(myself included, but in a different area). I don't know what the curriculum is for your BA, but if it's not only code based, then you're already on your way. do you have a link? Have you done any UX/UI work before? I used to work as a graphic designer before I made the transition myself, so I'm curious to hear what your experience is within the field. It's not to measure you, but I've had people tell me they want to do work with this type of design, but they don't necessarily know what it is actually working with it. Hope it makes sense?

I'm trying to prove this right now. Thanks for the inspiration. I recently just finished the Google UX course, and I'm trying to be taken seriously, but it's hard as my last job I was a high school teacher. I dropped out of my last year in uni because of anxiety, but I overcame it a few years later and have been struggling to get back on track ever since. It's definitely difficult to get people to recognise you as an intelligent hard worker without a degree. There is a kind of accepted fascism about relegating other humans to the bottom of the ability hierarchy without one. I have dedicated myself to making the best of what I can with professional certifications and trades, trying to fight my way back, and I know that if I could get a chance it would be so valuable to me that I would return that value multiple times over. Thanks for the push to carry on. 😄

@@travelingsandy900 I have a good prospect in the works now. A real interview with real people, which is a massive leap forward from the thousands of auto-email rejections. Beautiful story... persistence, hard work no matter if you have a degree, this is about how to think like a user ---> not all straight roads lead to where you want but these "key" ingredients to achieving what you want, is BELIEF in self. You gotta try no matter what. At least you tried. In your case you succeeded. Congrats!
