nice work...I was an exhibiting potter/ceramicist for nearly 30 years before switching to photography & video...my mother was a potter and textiles artist for many years...her older sister was an artist as was her younger sister...I'm in the process of making a video that looks at my family's involvement with visual arts and crafts over quite a few generations and have made a video where I talk about my journey with ceramics. I have also made a longish (46min) video about my mother's life including, of course, her artistic endeavours. These are all up on my Vimeo account. I think it is important to document life journeys so that future generations can get to know their ancestry...where certain traits, likes and talents may have come from.

I’m always skeptical of “artists” I see on KZbin, as they tend to be more interested in attention than art. I constantly find myself wondering _“Would they still make art if they weren’t allowed to humble-brag about it on social media?”_ Look at it this way: People who like camping go camping. Narcissistic children recored and upload “bushcraft” videos of themselves for social media. Another way way to separate _“artist”_ from _“influencer”_ is to steer towards critique, and gauge their response. If they’re an influencer, they won’t be able to handle critique. They’ve been raised to believe freeze peach and a difference of opinion are forms of “bullying,” and not to be tolerated. Show me an artist who shuns critique, and I’ll show you a failure.

As far as television commercials go, this is a good one. But, I’d encourage to stop lying (to others, and yourself), and embrace what you do. If it leaves a bad taste in your mouth, stop immediately, or you’ll end up ulcerous and unemployed. Good luck re-entering the workforce at 50. (ffr, your usage of the phrase _“moved on”_ was your biggest tell)

Powerful. It's so neat seeing the generational flow of artistry. Eric, you make truly unique and inspiring films and the world is a better place for it. I'm happy your parents are here to see the things you've created.

Love this, man! So cool for you to share these videos including those closest to you and sharing a little bit about them and their stories. And actually looking at the “why” you are an artist in the first place. I’m a nurse by trade and come from no creative background what so ever. Nor is anyone in my family an artist. So, this inspires me to maybe looking to my “why”. Also, you look just like your mother. 😂

Haha I was told to go to college ( or Uni in Oz) and get a career because an artist starves too and that was 1979. It's always the same. Our parents always want us to be independent and able to look after ourselves They have our best interests at heart. All my kids have grown up now. When your children are first born you just want to keep them alive. When they grow up you just want them to be break out of thier childhood and become independent so they can have a good life. And in between are the teenage years, that's why teenage angst is so good and so necessary
