, Hey man, I just found your channel and am very happy about that. I teach ESL in Illinois but the winters are too much for me so I'm planning on central or South America this coming fall. You are doing a fine job. I really like that you price out everything. I'm on fixed and low S. S. So costs are important. Advise: look up ESL or TSEL and you'll find endless sites to help with. methodologies and materials. If your interests persist look into IPA and pronunciations. It'll benefit sincere learners tremendously with the difficult language we were born into. Good luck with what you are doing. I'll be a regular. Thanks, Phil

I will be doing some traveling starting next year when I retire. It would be nice to have more youth on my side, but at least I will have some financial resources to back me up. I would love to teach English as a volunteer somewhere. I like Colombia. I have been many times, but never for extended stay.

In Armenia everyone is going to tell you to go to Salento and the Cocora valley, by no means skip Salento but also take a trip to the villages of Buenavista, Pijao and Filandia - it's less overrun by tourists, you can reach everywhere from the bus terminal, they're relatively frequent and only an hour or so away. Finally I've heard some reports on thefts on the bus Armenia-Salento so take care with your phone and backup your files on a cloud or something maybe even get insurance back home sometimes your bank offers it. Or you can buy a cheap camera/phone to record instead.

English conversation is personable and is an easy way to learn english language and is also helpful to encourage students to learn at home on their time, 10 new words every day of common things that can be incorporated during the class practice. I am not an expert in making videos, but I think you are coming through natural, sincere and likable. Great Job.

Dude , don't worry about the haters , it's a human thing, the more you grow and share stuff the more people will hate and criticize . as I said in another comment , I am from Cali and I honestly didn't take your Cali video in a negative way , it is your channel , your experience , your opinion , people should respect that , I gotta be honest and say that it made me sad a little bit being from Cali, but it is obvious that Medellín is way better than Cali in many aspects and this is a reflection of its people , hardworking and always helping each other , working a a team and his is why Medellin is such a nice place to live or visit , I've never been there but my wife and I will go early April . I remember as I was growing up there was a huge rivalry ( in a good way ) between Cali and Medellin , it's clear that Medellin wins hands down ... having said that in sure you would've had a great time in Cali if you had me as a guide, my wife is from Uruguay and she had the same feeling that you had when we first got there , but this changed as we explored the city a little more. if you are still in Armenia please don't forget to vist Las Termas de Santa Rosa , I absolutely loved it .

I'm' so excited for you! Congratulations! It seems that you have found an angel as that nice lady on the video really seems to be looking out for you. :) Armenia has some awesome places to visit but you will have to spend a little bit of money because it's tourist places. Hope you get to visit them. In regards to advice just check out some KZbin videos on people teaching English. Sending you great vibes to even greater experiences. :) Oh I just got another idea. Since you are a musician maybe you can get creative and use the guitar while teaching English. People love music, singing, etc... and sometimes that can be an easy and fun way to learn if you teach via music.

Hi Marshall great videos thanx. Pictures work really well, as people can think of say fruit & veg in their own language, then easily learn the English for 'banana' etc. Also I start every lesson with an alphabet practice of the SOUNDS of each letter. For young learners songs are great as they love repetition, see youtube vids like la la a a ants on my arm la la. My favourite technique - Questions then use words from the question in the answer for good grammar learning ie Where is the bus station? the bus station 3 blocks away etc. Question words very important, Who, Where, When, How, Why - let them write the Spanish equivalent. Use question words for basic sentences. When - answer is time use calendar to explain, makes lesson easy At 1[clock, on Monday, 2017 etc . Have fun. Hoping to be in Colombia end Jan :)

Hi Marshall, man I admire your courage. First time I left the U.S. I was about 30 y.o. And I went to the Phillipines. Since that time I have been hooked on travelling. Big ups to you. Re: Teaching English, smart move and good way to meet locals. I taught spoken English in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It was life changing. You asked for suggestions. Next time you come back to the states, get you some study material for what ever grade you are teaching. (Which it seems like it is basic English, maybe get 1st grade material) Also there are learning games. Go to the teacher stores. Teaching for an 1.5 hours is a long time, and you will need material. People have to be made interested or your class will be boring. You don’t want boring in your classes, trust me. Btw, I will be in Medellin in March 2019. 1st time. So excited. Anyway, best of luck to you. Felix Nuevo Anos. My name is Terry. Peace.

Hi, Marshall I have no idea how I stumbled across you channel but I have anyway.....Well watching you reminded me of my days as an English conversation teacher some 40 years ago in SE Asia and Japan. I did exactly that same as you. Ended up in a strange country but I did not know the languages then. They were the best days of my life I did learn to speak Thai and Japanese not as good as you seem to speak Spanish but well enough for daily life. The older lady in the coffee shop, you should let her adopt you, She hardly knew you but was looking to take care of you like her son...I suppose you have moved on by now so I will have to catch up and watch all of your vids. By the way if you keep on travelling 40 years is not a long time it seems a big number, but think about it, I bet it only seems a very short time since y0u put up this vid and that was Feb 2017 and now we are fast approaching 2019............Good Luck!!!

Hi Marshal, just stumbled on your vlog... I'm glad you're having a good time in Columbia and teaching as well Looks like the Colombians have a good heart and friendly too especially when you could communicate with them in Spanish. After my retirement as a paramedic (Physician Assistant) I back packed to South East Asia and at the same time I was teaching in a nursing college. I enjoyed teaching my nursing students too. It makes me feel young again despite being an old man. We used to joke and laugh in class while imparting knowledge to them. Now I don't teach anymore due to health reasons. Keep up with your good work and enjoy your teaching!. I'm a Malaysian and it looks like Columbia is similar to my country which is tropical.
